That's why, Shepard stays with her on board of the SR3. She's the captain, does ground missions like Shepard did - and let him doing all the boring speeches.
Ashley is - at least for me - the one and only sucessor of Shepard.
The Normandy was going back to Anderson (Traynor tells you this) ... I guess he really wanted his ship back. Maybe Ash was going to be his XO?
