I could go either way on this as I agree with both your points. It would be interesting, but it also has the potential to become soap opera drama and in the final game of a series I could really do without that.

If Vega were the James mentioned and he and Ash had had a relationship post the Normandy's demise, I'd much prefer they weren't still together when they are both on the squad with Shepard. A prior relationship between the two I'd be OK with, but a current relationship? No thanks. I could do without that drama as well.

Having lost so much Shepley content in the second game because of Ash's sidelining and lack of presence in that, I want the third game to be about Shepard and Ashley's relationship, not Shepard and Ashley and some other dude's relationship.

So a prior relationship between them? All well and good. But not a current one. I don't want that.

You say it so much better than I do.  MIND SYNC. 

Yeah I'm okay with a passing "We had something for awhile but it ended awhile back."  Or even a little bit of tension between James and Shepard.  But I don't want Ash to be IN a commited relationship with someone and have Shep STEAL her back. That's about as classy as the catfight.

Oh so much of this. I know they might stick us with a mentioningof Horizon, but I want the rest to just be pure unadulterated Sheply goodness if she's alreday romanced and smoething ute if she's a new romance to the point where whatever reservason Shepard had are gone.

If I had my druthers the opening of Mass Effect 3 would be this:

ESCAPE EARTH.

Shepard: Hey Ash....so uh....Wanna....*eyebrow waggle*
Ash: Shepard! EARTH IS BEING DESTROYED.
Shepard: Pfft. They'll be fiiiiiine. Hey, let's open up this bottle of champagne.

Yes, faithful Shepard should be rewarded. We've already done the build up in ME1; in ME3 we should move on to the catch up, getting back together, talk of the future and meeting the Williams' family

I don't think there's all that much of one, frankly.

If Ashley had mentioned knowing a dude named Hieronymus Alabaster Raghdranunath Fitzhugh, and we then found out that we would have a character named Hieronymus in the party, then maybe. But James? Nah. 

Also it was agreed among the Williamses that said James was cute, and  Vega looks kinda derpy so far. 

If it does end up being the same James, then my reaction would depend on how it were handled. We did after all bat around the possibility of somethings similar with Jacob while we were waiting for ME2's release and after we heard he'd been stationed on Eden Prime, and as I recall it was agreed that it could be kinda cool. However, that was a different beast, since it was contingent on a hypothetical preexisting relationship that was over and done with rather than one that would be ongoing, meaning that it would manifest as maybe some salacious ex-talk, verbal sparring and perhaps some light tension, rather than any full-fledged love triangle.

I'm inclined to say that a love triangle would be tacky, if not quite as tacky as the ones certain Shepards create themselves. 

We know Ashley hadn't moved on as of Horizon, so having actually run into Shepard, and probably having heard about some of Shepard's escapades through whatever channels she has developed, I'd say that she probably wouldn't have gotten any more comfortable with it in the interem. It might be interesting if we didn't have that precedent, but we do, so I'd be forced to think of it as OOC if she has hooked up with James in between sending Shep that love letter and the beginning of ME3. 

For cheating Shepards it might be completely appropriate if Ashley found someone else, there's tremendous potential for cheap melodrama inherent in such an arrangement.

And I agree I don't see Ash hooking up with someone in between Horizon and ME3.  No way.  Before that, when she had finally accepted Shepard was gone - maybe.

While I don't think the James mentioned by Ash is James Vega, I wouldn't be too upset if we found out Ash had been in a relationship after Shepard's "death". Shepard had plenty of opportunities to move on himself, there's no reason Ash shouldn't be in the same position. As ADL said, Ash is a catch.

But I'd be pretty annoyed if she was still in a relationship as of ME3, especially if you haven't cheated on her. If you have, and that's your punishment, then so be it. But if you've remained loyal, then it'd be adding drama for the sake of adding drama. I'm not a fan of angst, I don't want anybody to be fighting over love interests, they're trying to save the galaxy, not trying to find a date for the junior prom.

I believe they live on Ametarasu. I read it on the wiki when I looked her up recently.

I really don't think that Vega is the same James in the email, but for speculation sake let's just assume that he is for a moment...  We've been told that there will be major consequences for cheating on any LI in ME2 so if a romanced Ashley gets "cheated on" in ME2 maybe Vega is that consequence?  How much would it suck to have a scene where Shep comes clean with Ashley (if he "cheated"), she doesn't take it well and pursues a relationship with Vega... right in front of Shep on his own ship...  THATWOULDSUCKSOBAD!!!  

I do hope that this is not the case, but I am looking forward to finding out more about him and what he's all about.
