@badpie:

You are right. And that is actually what I meant, but didn't say right. The first real conversation that isn't strictly buisness.

Another topic that has been mentioned:

I think the game will start in a hearing, we will never know how Shepard actually got there. All my Shepards ranging from the Alliance poster boy to the egomaniacal a-hole would show up on their own free will anyway.
The first chance we will have to talk to Ashley will be aboard the Normandy after they rescued Shepard and I hope it will  involve a lot of awkward behaviour and her cute sideways look.

Also, the concentration of Sheploo faces is getting to high for an Ashley Williams support thread.
In the words of David Archer: Please make it stop!

I hope Ash will be snarky about pulling Shep's ass out of the water instead of the other way around. Also I am assuming because of the actions of Arrival Shep had his/her Spectre status revoked. (if you accepted reinstatment in ME2) So something along the lines of the shoes on the other foot now kinda conversation. Also for how Shep went to jail that is what Fanfics are for. Make up your own story.
I can't wait for snarky Ash in ME3. B)

@tele:
I don't think, she will be snarky to Shepard right away, not until the air has fully been cleared between them. Her "Welcome home, commander!" (if I heard it right) at the end of the E3 gameplay demo that showed the rescue was very matter-of-fact and cool, but that could have been on account of trying to keep the Husks at a distance, but it gives me the impressions, that she will be more careful around Shepard at first, but I, too, hope she will dish out the snark eventually and plenty of it. That's one of the things that would even upset me, if they changed it.

I have a problem, when someone says they don't like the look because it goes against Ashley's character and against everything Chris L'Etoile, whose role in the actual character design, i.e. the visual aspects of Ashley as well as the armor, were probably rather limited, against everything, that Chris L'Etoile, maker of all things good and just, has decreed.

I have a problem with the statement made here.  Not just because of the bold as it's more a snide remark than anything else, but because writing is as much a prominent feature of design (probably more so) than anything else.

Descriptive writing gives a writer a vague map that they can follow to design whatever's intended and that extends to the artist who's likely to draw the character.  Without that map all that will exist is a blank slate.  I don't know if you have a Shepard made with the face creator, but for those of us who do we all had an idea of what we wanted our various Shepard(s) to look like.  It also lends itself to the naming of the individual.  They could have come up with many looks and I think I came across an image that showed what Ashley looked like prior to what was finalized.

So I believe that saying L'Etoile's role in character design being limited is wrong.  Knowing that Bioware's writers are there closer to the beginning, if not at the beginning, of a project leads me to think that writers are more involved in the design process.

(sad) Ash question time!

What did Ashley say at your shepard's funeral.

I touched on this in my story (link in the siggy) and Ashley got emotional during her speech and the crew had a toasts to Shepard.

tbh due to ME2 terrible story telling its hard for me to even imagine shepard haveing a  funeral. i mean nothing about it was even mentioned.

since it comes across like  the alliance and council didnt give a crap about shepard after he died in ME2 would the even bother to hold a cermony for him.if so was it public or private,was ash even invited, if she was would she even go and if she did would she get up in front of a crowd of ppl and bear her pain to them (i think thats unlikely)

the reunion on horizon would have been a nice time to learn all of this,instead we got "blah blah blah cerberus,blah blah blah traitor blah blah im leaving"

ME2 should have adressed all of these things,instead we got TIM,giant bugs, and a unfinshed human reaper.

so to answer your topic i cant even envision a shepard  funeral since we have nothing to go on about it.

I would imagine he wouldn't really have a public one.  A small thing maybe, but it depends on your Shepard.  My Shep is a Spacer so Hannah probably no doubt had some sort of service.  It may have even been official, but classified.

I like to think Ash was there and only really spoke to his mother, and only enough to introduce herself as the gunnery chief, tell she was proud to serve with him and say she was sorry for her loss.

Ash didn't cry there or be anything but the dutiful soldier.  :(

To be honest I'm glad they didn't say (and I hope they don't) because everyone's Shep is so different.

Well, the obvious thing would be for her to read from Ulysses. The "Death closes all" passage is extra-appropriate for a funeral.

She wouldn't have said anything at main!Shep's, though. The priest would have read some mantras, Hannah would have set the fire, and they'd all have gone home. I just wonder what gift she'd have brought. Flowers or money would be standard, but I'm thinking maybe a book of Sarojini Naidu poetry. A proper Balinese funeral for someone as important as Shep would be pretty damn lavish, but Ash strikes me as the type to go simple and meaningful regardless. And it would probably stress her a lot less than speaking in public, at least :blush:

I do think that the Alliance probably put on at least something for Shep.  I mean, he was the first human Spectre, and he saved the Citadel, so while the affair might have been rushed and poorly publicized, I'm positive it happened.  (Definitely happened in my head canon, anyways).

But I don't think Ash said anything.  Not at canon!Shep's memorial service anyway, although I like to think she offered Anderson a suggestion when he said he was going to read something instead of giving a proper speech.  I like the idea that she suggested the exerpt from Tennyson's Idylls of the King dedication that I've got below:

And indeed He seems to me
Scarce other than my king's ideal knight,
'Who reverenced his conscience as his king;
Whose glory was, redressing human wrong;
Who spake no slander, no, nor listened to it...
We have lost him: he is gone:
We know him now: all narrow jealousies
Are silent; and we see him as he moved,
How modest, kindly, all-accomplished, wise,
With what sublime repression of himself,
And in what limits and how tenderly;
Not swaying to this faction or to that;
Not making his high place the lawless perch
Of winged ambitions, nor a vantage-ground
For pleasure; but through all this tract of years
Wearing the white flower of a blameless life,
Before a thousand peering littlenesses,
In that fierce light which beats upon a throne,
And blackens every blot: for where is he,
Who dares foreshadow for an only son
A lovelier life, a more unstained, than his?

A bit over the top, sure.  (Especially that 'modest, kindly, all-accomplished, wise' bit.  I don't think my Shep is really any of those things).  But Shep's dead, and you can praise the dead in ways that you'd never praise the living, for fear they'd become too powerful/conceited/dangerous.

Also: @Quething: +100 useless bonus points for use of Looney Tunes profanity.

I would think she would say something along the lines of that she isn't good with words and just recite Tennyson's Ulyssses.

edit: Although Batlass' Tennyson poem  would make more sense.

Batlass I love that poem. <3

As much as I love Ulysses I kind of feel like that's their private thing, you know? Oh now I'm getting sad thinking about poor Ash during the time Shep was dead. :(

I would have to agree that at my spacer Shepard's memorial service she would have just given her heartfelt condolence to his mother and try and appear stoic throughout.

Now after the service I see her and a few of Shepard's crew going out for drinks in Shepard's honor.
It is there that Ash starts to recite a poem but chokes up so Garrus stands next to her and recites his own ...

Poem to a Dead Soldier
Ice-cold passion
And a bitter breath
Adorned the bed
Of the youth and Death-
Youth, the young soldier
Who went to the wars
And embraced white Death,
the vilest of ****s.

Posted Image

Now we spread roses
Over your tomb-
We who sent you
To your doom.
Now we make soft speeches
And sob soft cries
And through soft flowers
And utter soft lies.

 Posted Image

 We would mould you in metal
And carve you in stone,
Not daring to make statue
Of your dead flesh and bone,
Not daring to mention
The bitter breath
Nor the ice-cold passion
Of your love-night with Death.

We make soft speeches
We sob soft cries
We throw soft flowers,
And utter soft lies.
And you who were young
When you went to the wars
Have lost your youth now
With the vilest of ****s.

Poor Joker broke down and Ash, although still somewhat angry at him, gently held him by the shoulders and they both cried. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Well, there were galactic news reports; they mention memorials along with - a likeness on a colony seal, scholarship, or a memorial flame - based on what background & psych profile you chose.

Here's a link (you'll have to scroll down a bit to get to it)

It was my understanding that the Alliance was trying to down play his death. So a huge funeral would be counter productive.

true, but there' shepard memorials, Mindoir getting the rights to use Shpes image for colonists, Hannah honnoring her  hilds memory by captaining a ship, etc. they were really trying to downplay the reapers.

It's prolly the whole "the Alliance and Council disavowed Shep over the Reapers and made him/her out to be a delusional pariah" thing.

But that didn't happen until a while after Shepard died, by all accounts. At the time of the SR-1's destruction, Shepard was still Savior of the Citadel, First Human Spectre, rescuer of Eden Prime, and potentially hero of Elysium/Feros/Terra Nova. (Must have been one hell of a smear campaign, and you can see it still didn't take all that well, given Shep's endorsement is worth a discount and promoting Hannah is a valid political maneuver). A hero's funeral back at the zenith of Shepard's fame is pretty much a given, even if it wasn't widely publicized.

My question is only how it would play out. For Sheps who have pallbearers or some equivalent role, would Garrus and Wrex be allowed to participate? For Sheps involved with Kaidan or Ashley, would they risk bringing that
relationship out into the open in order to claim a lover's role in the funeral, or keep it on the QT to protect their careers and reputations, and just serve as a close friend (Ash would be entitled to main!Shep's flag and dog tags, but I can see her leaving them to Hannah)? Would Joker pilot one of the fighters in the missing man flyover Shep should be entitled to? (Oh man, Shep's a high-ranking officer, I dunno how the Alliance does it but a US military service would have a horse. I wanna see them bring a horse to the Citadel for a funeral :lol:).

Also hey, I've gotten myself embroiled in a Horizon argument on another thread. I feel like a Real Ash Fan now, heh.

i dont htink the alliance "smeared" or disavowed shepard i think they just discredited his reaper warnings,everything else they love. they use shepard alot in recruiting and have memorials and funds set up in his name.

also goodluck with your horizon argument....lord knows how many times we have to jump into those. its almost as if every one who blames ash for that encounter is the same EXACT PERSON. cause they all think and act the same exact way about it, ****ing crying and whining that ash dosent stroke sheps ego and give him the respect a big uber awsome hero like him is entitled.....how annoying it is.
