I know exactly what you're talking about
Ashley: G'morning Skipper.
Shepard: Hey Ash - coffee?
Ashley: Yes, please. Ugh ... never had such a bad night in years. Not even when I lost you.
Shepard: Ouch. Couldn't sleep?
Ashley: No ... nightmares. Whenever I woke up, I watched you, got sleepy again and felt right into the next nightmare. Hadn't those since Dad died.
Shepard: I'm listening, Ash. Always.
Ashley: *rubs head* ... okay. I see myself in a forrest. Walking down a road, everything is kinda mushy. Can see persons - but as soon as I get close, they're turning into oily smoke. And I hear voices - of people we lost. Kaidan, Sarah's husband, Dad, my grandfather, my squad, the 212th ... all seem to look down on me, guide me through that forrest. And then ... I can see my family. Mom, Abby, Lynn and Sarah. And myself. We're smiling ... and then, they start burning. They now look sad ... I can't reach them, I ...
Shepard: No one made it through that war unscathed, Ash. I had the same dream. Not with your family, but with that child that died when we left Earth. That boy haunted me in my dreams. And the more oftener I dreamt, the more gruesome that dream became. It stopped haunting me when the war ended ...
Ashley: Yes, you told me. You had to fight inner demons and ... indoctrination.
Shepard: The Reapers are gone. So something else might haunt you.
Ashley: I feel guilty, John ... I do ...
Shepard: Guilty for what?

Yeah. I wish my Shep would act like this: "any adults here to talk with" - you, ma'am, made my day!
Looking forward for your story.
And ... I have no idea why Ash is feeling guilty. Guesses?

I dunno, trying to move on with another guy pre-Rez and not telling him?
No. She couldn't move on - it's no new guy and none from the past. It's nothing like that.
Still, she feels guilty. So guilty she can't sleep anymore.

Ah, survivor's guilt. IT can do that. And with everything and all the physcological damage everyone has taken, especially Shepard's crew and the Commander himself, I doubt any of them would be able to sleep comfortably for the rest of their lives.
You're getting closer for sure.
Ashley hates to see friends and relatives dying. With every lost face, she also lost a part of herself. Think about it ... knowing that you might get an idea how hard it must be for her to be a soldier: people are dying, regardless of what Ash does, she feels responsible for every death she has to watch.
So she's -very- prone to feel survivor's guilt.
She also might feel guilty because of not being able to protect her family.

This forum is once again straying from topic. Anyone got an Ash picture?
Wonder why?
There's nothing but a lack of content to talk about. <_<

I got ME on a hunch. Normally, I play stuff like ARMA2 and I dismissed ME as something that I wouldn't like. When I experienced the character development and diversity, I realised how wrong I was. To have that thrown out of the window at the last minute is...
Painful.

Ashley: Shepard... ?
Shepard: *coughs* Hey... *cough, cough chuckle* Why the long face...? We won.
Ashley: Yes, yes we won. Thanks to you.
Shepard: ... I can't believe it... *slight panting* m'tired...
Ashley: You can go to sleep, Skipper. Chakwas can patch you up in a flash.
Shepard: ... be there when I wake up?
Ashley: I promise, Skipper. I promise.
Shepard: ... remember what I always said... back on the SR1? ... Before hitting the hay?
Ashley: 'Until tomorrow'.
Shepard: Yeah... I'll see you there...
This is pretty much what I envisioned would at least be an option.
Damn it
