So there is only one conversation difference? Nothing else?

Although not a Jacob fan myself I feel so bad for his fans.
I bet so went through me1 100% so they could stay true to Jacob in ME2 and have it all come together in ME3 just to find out he is cheating.
If something like that happened to Ashley I would cry

I am not kidding when I say that if Ashley cheated with a squad mate (which she would never do) that said squad mate may or may not get shot in the back during our next mission.
But you wouldnt shoot Ashley, right ? <_<

Miranda's lame role was part of the reason why I lost romantic in her.
I really loved her in ME2 almost as much as I loved Ash in ME1.
So when it came time for ME3 I was so conflicted, after much thought I decided to go with Ash my first playthrough then go with Miranda my second and go with which one I loved more.
But after seeing how boring she was in ME3 I decided to stick permeantly with Ashley. (I really do love Ashley, so I make it sound I just romanced her just being the second best option I apologize)

Make no mistake, her scenes are good, but I don't think there's enough of them and there isn't enough oppertunity to properly talk.
I think I spent longer talking to Aria than I did to any ex-ME2 squadmates. Even though that might be an exageration, I got a lot more out of her about what happened since ME2 than I did anyone else.

Vega: What about Shepard? *worried look on face*
Shepard: I had a little talk with EDI, do you know how much she talks.... She saw something interesting while you and Ashley were working together back on Earth
Vega: Hey man its not what you think!
Shepard: look I understand she is beautiful after all but....
Vega: Good I thought you might....
BAM!
Shepard: *turns on radio* Joker.... Vega.... He .... didn't make it

I tried doing a FemShep but knowing I couldn't romance Ashley made me lose interest
That's why I have to edit my save games... that way I don't have to play ME1 and can romance Ash in ME2 and 3 with FemShep.
I much prefer her voice actor over dudeshep's. I like that the hero can be a strong female character... and ya know, it doesn't hurt that her pixels are easier on the eyes than dudeshep's.

YouthCultureForever asked me to post a nice Shepley dialogue since she's having troubles synchronizing her game with the board.
Have a nice read - original can be found http://social.biowar...log/212263/here.Shepard: Rough night?
Ashley: Yeah. You could say that.
Shepard: Well, it's good to see you're up. Shaking it off.
Ashley: ...Yeah.
Shepard: We're docking at the Citadel soon. You should take some shore leave. It'll be good to get off the ship a while. Relax.
Ashley: Nah. I've think seen enough of the Citadel in the past few weeks to last me a life time, Commander. Besides I don't really have anywhere to go. No errands to run. No injuries to fix up. No Council to see... I'll be fine here.
Shepard: I really think you should take a break. I'll be checking in with Joker and EDI later. They like to frequent Purgatory. Maybe you should join them. I'm sure James will be there too.
Ashley: ...Sounds like a party. Guess my invitation got lost in the mail.
Shepard: It's not like that. This is more a coincidental gathering. It's certainly not invitation only.
Ashley: Forget about it. I was just kidding. If you guys are meeting up at Purgatory, then shore leave at the Citadel is double no for me. I learned last night that wine is not the drink of the gods.
Shepard: How are you going to spend your downtime, Ash?
Ash: Sobering up with this great big pot of black coffee.
Shepard: Black coffee, huh?
Ash: Yeah. Strong and Spartan-like. It's the true drink of the gods.
Shepard: Pour me a cup?
Ash: ...Sure.
Shepard: You want to talk?
Ash: About last night? No, not really, Commander.
Shepard: About what's bothering you.
Ash: No. I don't really wanna talk about that, either.
Shepard: Seems like you need to.
Ash: I don't think now's the best time. I mean, we'll be docking soon. Not enough time to talk.
Shepard: There never is. Time is a thief I would rob. Tell me.
Ash: ...I guess it's just the war. It's got me thinking about some things.
Shepard: Tell me.
Ash: ...What's going on with us?
Shepard: What do you mean? We're friends.
Ash: Friends...
Shepard: Yeah, you take away everything else that we are. We're friends. We're just working on the rest, right?
Ash: ...Shepard. You can't just will a friendship into existence.
Shepard: I don't know what you're trying to say.
Ash: ...Of 'course you don't.
Shepard: Explain yourself.
Ash: Shepard, what exactly do you know about my life these days? I mean think about it. Did you know I attended officer candidate school? Do you know why I was promoted? Do you wonder at all about my drastic change in attitude and appearance? How the rambling Williams family is getting along?
Shepard: Ash...
Ash: And y'know... I don't know a thing about your life, either.
Shepard: Ash, I'm sorry if I've been distant lately, but I thought that's what we needed.
Ash: A couple weeks ago I had my pistol trained on you, Shepard. The last thing I need is for you avoid me. It seems like your avoiding the truth about us.
Shepard: What truth?
Ash: You know what. I'll spell it out for you, Shepard. The last year of my life, despite a few minor professional successes, has been this wide awake nightmare of conflicting emotions. But no matter how bad it got there was always one thing that kept me going. That was us. Our bond. Connection. Whatever you wanna call it. Y'know, it made me feel like I wasn't alone. I was part of something special.
Shepard: You could have come to see me. You knew where I was.
Ash: To rehash Horizon? That's not what I wanted.
Shepard: How do you know that's it what it would have been?
Ash: Because I still didn't like the idea of you as a collaborator to TIM. Distance and time can't erase that. I mean, was it just me, or was that jaw droppingly out of character?
Shepard: That's not what it was, Ash.
Ash: See what I mean. I don't have anything straight anymore. I don't know which side to take on anything.
Shepard: ...
Ash: Look, I'm not trying to make you the bad guy. I'm not. And I'm not sitting here whining about being friends or not being friends. It's just for the first time in our relationship... I'm not feeling that connection, Shepard.
Shepard: ...
Ash: That scares me.
Shepard: Ash. How long have you felt this way? How can you possibly feel this way?
Ash: I don't know. I'm just telling you how I feel. This wasn't meant to make you feel bad. I mean, we've been split up for a long time. Maybe...maybe it's just too much. I'm just trying to make sense of us. Maybe this isn't real anymore.
Shepard: So you're just being realistic? Ashley. I feel our connection. You took my side on the Citadel. In the moment you turned your gun on Udina you proved you still feel it too. You called me Skipper. We still have something.
Ash: ...
Shepard: You once told me there was a reason for everything that happens. Even if you don't understand it at the time.
Ash: I also told you I didn't need a shoulder to cry on.
Shepard: Ash, you still believe in hope, right?
Ash: ...If heaven is the home of my god. Yes.
Shepard: Then don't let this war threaten everything you know. Everything you care about. Don't over analyze everything. Don't look for answers to us or anything else in a bottle. You want us to work that's why you're here talking about it. We can still beat the odds. Just give us a chance.
Ash: I don't know... I
Shepard: Just be strong. For us. For me. If not for yourself.
Ash: [sips coffee]
Shepard: Like this cup of coffee. Strong and Spartan-like. You wouldn't drink the drink of the gods if you truly felt you were unworthy. If you felt you weren't capable of something great.
Ash: It just feels like our gap is going to take a lot to bridge and our time for getting one up and running is quickly running out.
Shepard: This war doesn't mean the death of us, Ashley. This is our beginning. We have so much to fight for. Our future.
Ash: ...
Shepard: Say something, Ash.
Ash: ...Death closes all. But something ere the end. Some work of noble note may yet be done. Not unbecoming men that strove with gods.
Shepard: [smiles]
Ash: You were always an optimist, Skipper.
Shepard: I alwasy knew, deep down, you were too. So it's decided, right?
Ash: Us? If you think we can work this out... That this is important enough to try. If you believe there's hope for us... Well, how can I argue against hope.
Shepard: I was talking about shore leave on the Citadel. There was never any question about us.
Ash: I'm not up for Purgatory... but I'll catch up with you in the Commons.
Shepard: Ash. Thank you.
Ash: For what?
Shepard: For having hope.
Ash: Yeah. You too, Shepard.
I swear... better writers on here that at Bioware... at least Ash wise.
Great job.
EDIT: And off topic... why does everyone think Thane got a bad role? I loved his role, IMO the best out of all the ME2 ppl that I've seen. (I haven't seen Jack, Zaeed, Morinth, Kasumi yet ... they weren't alive in my last playthrough)

Sadly that's probably the thought process.Instance wrote...
Jacob and Ashley have two things in common, they both have less than satisfying interaction, and they both have the ability to die in the series.
Bioware gave Liara such rich screen time b/c she can't die ever
Ashley can die on virmire and citadel
and jacob can die on the suicide mission
why spend time developing them both as much as liara if the player may not even have them alive?

Ashley: Go away ghost... person... thingy...
Shepard: I'm hurt. I came all the way down here to see you.
Ashley: Took your bloody time.
Shepard: You had a drink or two while waiting, I take.
Ashley: I got DRUNK waiting for you to see me. Now go away. Come back when I'm sober.
Shepard: ... do you at least want some help getting off the floor?
Ashley: No.
Shepard: 'Cold floor'?
Ashley: Cold floor.
