Man, if you could swap out FemShep with Ash in this, that would so make my day!

Posted Image
This could definitely pass off as Ash. And I could see that, too.

There's my Top Ash:

*sigh* It still baffles me to this day that EAWare couldn't understand that most (if not all) of us wanted such a simple thing as this in the end.

I love how the toy in that picture looks like a Reaper. A cuddly Reaper...

Damn, nearly 1000 pages.

Simple really. Those who didn't interact with them well enough only got half of the story. I think Vega's character is built a lot like Miranda's.

Vega and Miranda both have what I would class as a stereotypical appearance. Vega is the hulk who can bench press twice his own body weight, and Miranda is the woman who flaunts everything she has and/or the ice queen.

Consider the implications of those two for a moment. Vega has the dumb squaddie and Miranda has the manipulative **** or the ****, depending on how you see her.

If you explore those characters more, you'll find the complete opposite of what you expected simply from appearances.

Vega has bucket loads of potential, but he is letting his insecurities get the better of him. He's guilty about his squad and it is preventing him achieving his ambition/destiny in the N7 program. Shepard has the power to help him overcome his problems.

Miranda's appearance and initial persona is just a facade for her own problems. She's a tortured individual and doesn't quite know what she is. Like Vega, her past is pulling her down, but in this case it is stopped her expressing her true nature. Shepard, again, has the power to help her overcome this. When you do her loyalty mission, she becomes much more of a real person after Shepard has helped her take the burden of her past and her sister away from her. Add in the stuff from the Shadow Broker's files and you can see that she really is a sorry state.

Quite different from those initial impressions, right?

I know I certainly fell for the initial impressions. I disliked Miranda instantly from her attitude. Exploring her character changed the way I view her entirely. I actually felt sympathy for her. Vega is the same. I saw him as the dumb squaddie, but when you speak to him, you realise his true nature. The friendly boxing really emphasised this for me.
This is simply my interpretation though, so don't jump down my throat for it, please!

I'll throw this in here as well...:bandit:

Generally speaking, I've got the same feelings. I always named those as "hard to know" characters, but they are also the most fascinating ones and those who make you satisfied, because you learned their story. I can understand that people can't see anything more in Miranda than Ice Queen, jealous about Shepard. Or they see hardcore racist in Ash, and that's all. The reason is that they followed different route, focused on those characters that were nice to them since the very beginning. Just remind yourself Liara from ME1, who was even dangerous to talk, because anything nice you said to her - she was overexcited and told you how fascinating you are.
That's why i decided to get know Ash better. And Miranda in ME2.

But, seriously - all those critics on Vega? He's such a great character, feels like he joined the crew years ago; he's a character with a great voice acting. In my first playthrough I didn't picked him once for a mission and still enjoyed his stories, dialogues. Now James is spamming carnage everywhere on the map with me and his dialogues are even more awesome.

Loco, completely Loco.

Thank you for this posting. You know the truth

Do I really have to state I like Miranda?
And Vega is a buddy. He's that type of soldier I'd like to have covering my back.

:D There's is no right or wrong way to think. It's like this: Shepard means something unique for everyone. We shaped our Shepard how we saw fit. Some shaped him in their own likeness, others shaped him into something they aspire to be. Each individual experiences the Mass Effect story uniquely.

Not many characters are expressly shown as being absolute morons for this reason
(okay, maybe the Turian councillor is, lol!) . It is up to the player to decide who the morons are.

It isn't like an average game, where for example, the villan is shoved into your face with a big "THIS GUY IS EVIL" banner above his head. Hell, some people probably don't even see the Reapers as evil.

There's a relevant Ash line in this somewhere...

Here it is!

Bug-eyed aliens are going to overrun the galaxy. They eat babies, smell bad, and don't have elbows. Nasty.

To make a point here, she is describing the aliens as something that would be widely accepted as evil. We do not know their motive so we cannot judge if they are doing it for a good intentioned reason. This is why it is different to the Reapers. Granted, the Reapers probably do eat babies and they certainly don't have elbows, but we know their motives and that is what I feel your opinion on the Reapers hinges on. Are they a solution to a problem or an abomination?

It's up to the player to judge. And that ladies and gentlemen, is the beauty of Mass Effect.

/essay.

I agree. I liked Vega. I think the Vega-hate comes mostly from him being the FNG.

And he's human. And if there's anything I've learned from my time on these forums is that everyone hates the human squad mates. Because alienz r sooo kool!!

Oh, believe me, I make FemShep bring out the big guns as well. It'd just be cool if the animations showing here had Ash in place of FemShep.

I've actually found that EDI works well with Ashley in combat. with Ashley's disruptor ammo they both take down shields with ease. Though in my Kaidan pt Garrus is showing off with his sniper rifle because Ashley isn't there to be the teams sniper.

Yeah, that's what I've been finding out lately. Despite my early reactions at EDI's sexbot image, she's becoming a more valuable asset to my team. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about something.

Anyone else sort of annoyed at the missions where they make you take a certain squadmate?

They make you take Liara to Thessia and Eden Prime. Garrus on Palaven. Tali for the Geth Dreadnought. EDI for the Cerberus base.

It totally screws up my squad makeup and it's not as effective because I can only choose one of the two that I need/want. I won't count Mars because that's the very beginning of the game and you don't have anyone else to begin with (and besides Ashley is along..)

Why can't it be like the Geth Hubb mission where Legion is along but you still select two squadmates? Granted there's no fighting during that mission but you get my point.
