Gerrel is an idiot, who throws away his whole race for a futile war in a time, where a much bigger threat is looming on the horizon.

I hope he resigns from the board when this war is over.  The last need we need is for him to stage wars on Rannoch because of his paranoia with the geth.  Plus, some of the decisions he made were pretty stupid.

On the one hand you can say they should have been more careful, on the other hand they were probably working in uncharted territory. On the one hand you can say it might have been wrong to try and wipe out the geth, but on the other they could have been right about an inevitable Geth revolt.

It's a sticky subject because we don't know all the details.

Well going by the records we see, the government reacted violently to the situation when it occured.  I can ind of see why but the fact that it was not a universal feeling and how the government resorted to acts which killed their own people says a lot.  Considering the Geth did stop when they could have wiped out all Quarians during the Morning War hints strongly it was a survival thing for the Geth not agression.

You can also see this in later generations of Quarians where the party line regarding them was maintained almost blindly.  That is understandable considering the history.  Tali interacting with Legion and seeing Shep interact is what changed her mind.  Like anyhting else familiarity is the best way to shatter false impressions.

It's more about trust than like for me.  I can't trust Gerrel like I could Raan or Koris.  Even Xen, while I don't like her, I can trust she will fall in line as portrayed in the game.  Xen is cold, calculating and not prone to what Gerrel did. But he does stand down when you get through the hate and agression if you paragon the crap out of Rannoch.

Sure, but the Quarians didn't know the geth wouldn't pursue them. We also don't know how the situation would unfold if they didnt try to wipe them out, it is a sound assumption that sentient AIs wouldn't be satisfied with an existence meant for simple labor VIs. Trying to smash them is certainly a lot simpler than fundamentally restructuring society to capacitate a synthetic race that unintendly turned sentient, not to mention it was illegal by council law. So it was a very sticky matter.

Well considering the first agressive act by the Geth was by an agricultural unit to defend others I am not sure.  I suspect the Quarians reacted as they did because of the council law as much as anything.  A sticky issue?   Sure to some degree but really it's like Shep says, the whole history of the quarians relating to the geth has been one of the quarians attempting to wipe them out and the geth reacting.  Legion also mentions that the geth were unsure of themselves and what they should do at first.   And after all this time the Geth show a bent towards service as a whole after you get peace with them.  Nothing we see in game points to the Geth as being likely to revolt in that manner.  Could it happen? sure but I am not sure it would be that likely.

AI research was only outlawed AFTER the morning war though.

@Jonttu1 Are you sure? I thought the prohibition on AI predated the Geth? The quarians got around the restriction by having the networked intelligence instead of a blue box setup.

Sure, we know that in retrospect, but it's easy to understand the Quarians freaked out at the time. Imagine if the computers and machinery we rely on to just do as we want became sentient, even if they were perfectly cooperative the ''OH GOD KILL IT QUICK'' reaction would be powerful, because who knows what it would decide next.

Well atleast I remembered that the ban was set to stop another geth type rebellion from happening...

In mass effect one it is implied at least through squad dialog with tali that the law was in place before the geth uprising.

I have returned. I see the thread has advanced a few pages while I've been away. No one took over Mad's bar while I was away either it seems...

Also,Mad, the bar was pretty busy last night. The turian brandy's running low because had a lot of dextro drinks served as a pick-me-up from the endings. We should be fine on rum and whisky though for a while.

One last thing. I don't think those tiny statues of Tali have been painted yet but Revan volunteered to paint them. B)

Edit since FORMATTING IS TERRIBLE!

Oh, quarians and their Geth. It will be interesting to see how they react to the geth's presence now that they have made peace with them. I can imagine Tali will have a heck of a hard time trying to convince the admiralty board not to do anything stupid with them, although if Shepard becomes a honorary member of the council, he'll set things straight with a bit of renegade

I swear every time I have to deal with the damn admiralty board, it seems yelling at them and punching them in the stomach is the only way they ever get things done. Even Kal'Reegar said it, the soldiers who are enlisted in the migrant fleet do more than those ****s ever will Of course, I won't dare harm Tali even if she is wrong, its just that those other admirals...not sure who's worse, the old council or the admiralty board.

I might also add that quarian tongues were being stuck down peoples throats, which also caused a high demand in brandy...don't ask why, you'd have to look back to see why.  Telling you will probably start it all over again...

Not quite...

There was just an...interesting conversation about a concept art where Tali had a long tongue.

This topic should have been allowed to die and never spoken of again.

Thought I'd leave this here, figure some of you have seen this already:

Looks like more people are recognizing the subtleties in Tali's photo I mentioned yesterday. The facial structure here is probably one of the closest to canon I've seen in a fanart.

Dark side?  Probably not.

Renegade?  Hell yeah!  If only her eyes glowed orange instead of blue...
