Well, shoot me now. The last couple days, I've been going on YouTube and trolling Liara fans. Childish? Yes. Why Did I do it? I don't know. :( I think it's because I've gotten so sick of seeing her shoved down our throats by this series. Plus, every time someone makes a "I want blue children!" comment, I'm pretty sure a puppy dies.

It's just frustrating because it seems like anyone who DIDN'T romance Liara in this series got screwed in some form.  poor Tali gets a scene that's just a minute long.  Of course, who chose Thane or Jacob had it 10x worse.

I dunno even if Tali didn't have an extensive scene I felt it was so well done that it didn't matter. It was very emotional and powerful stuff. The dialogue between the two of them is outright brilliant at times and beyond anything I've seen from the other characters.

Though yeah, Jacob romancers got screwed. But part of me thinks that's ok. Not every relationship works out. I doubt I'd feel the same if I was one of them though.

Thane...I dunno. I have a tough time feeling bad. We KNEW he was going to die. We KNEW this. They unfortunately went out of their way to give hope to fans otherwise but still...shoulda been prepared. His scenes romance wise, according to youtube, needed more flushing out though.

I don't really have a problem with Liara. She just wasn't as interesting as Tali. And her voice carries a certain level of apathy that I find unfortunate.

To give his heart to Tali, doesn't mean that all other girls simply suck.
They can be good friends and have an interesting personality as well.
It is just difficult with Liara, she got strong feelings for you, doesn't matter if you flirt with her or not. And it always makes me sad so reject her.

Jacob is such a derpy character anyways I'm surprised people even wanted to romance him. But still, just because he's a bad LI doesn't mean they should have gone and made him a derpy cheater d-bag instead of purely a derp.

Yeah, but as someone outside of the romance I can't help but be somewhat appreciative of the fact they add little nuances like that. It's unrealistic to think that every romance you make will work out. Of course, Mass Effect is no pinacle of realism. And I think people should have their escape from the machinations of the universes evil intentions.

But still, it's kind of cool to see things like that.

There aren't really any characters in Mass Effect that I dislike (except maybe Zaeed; his endless anecdotes annoy me). I like Ashley, Liara, Miranda, Jack, and all the other romance options. I just like Tali substantially more, that's all.

Tali really captured my heart in the first conversations you have with her in engineering on the SR-1. The way Adams talks about how smart she is, and her enthusiasm for the ship and the technology made me feel "here's a girl who loves being an engineer". Now, I obviously like that she's a tech geek, but more important to me is that you have a passion for what you do, regardless of what it is. Tali had that in spades. And then you get to learn all the interesting stuff about her people.

During my first playthrough of ME1, I knew that there would be multiple romance options, but I didn't know what they were. So, pretty much at that conversation, I thought "I'm going to pick Tali if it's possible." Imagine my disappointment that it wasn't. So I picked Liara instead because I did want to see the romance scenes.

Like I said, I like Liara too. I do feel bad about cheating on her, but unfortunately for Liara, she was always second choice. When the topic came up in LotSB and ME3, I never tried to rekindle because I felt it wouldn't be fair: I was always straight-forward that I was no longer interested, and Liara seemed okay with that.

If I want to do another Talimance playthrough, I'd probably not romance Liara again (the LP I'm currently doing doesn't count because I did it to show my viewers the romance scene). I'd prefer to stay true to Tali, now that I know that she'll be an option later.

Alright, I'm off to class. Everybody behave while I'm gone. Don't do anything I wouldn't do.

...So, that pretty much leaves the book open on things to do.

I want a full report when I return. Dismissed!

Glad I'm not the only one who thought she sounded like a robot.  I thought Liara's VA was pretty decent in ME1, but in the second two she took a real nosedive.  She did the unthinkable: she became even more monotone than Shepard.
Meanwhile, I thought Stroka did a wonderful job with Tali. Which may be one of the things that attracted me to her character in the first place.  She conveys so much  emotion without one ever seeig her facial expressions, it's hard not to give her praise!

I don't like the Illusive Man and Udina, but not because they're bad characters. You're supposed to hate these characters, and I love to hate them. I still like them as characters, even though I don't like them as people. That's what I meant by saying there are no characters I dislike.

There are other people that I think are total jerks too (like that Volus ambassador), but I still don't dislike them as characters.

Ashley rubbed me the wrong way initially, but she kind of grew on me. She acts all xenophobic, but various minor interactions (like the elevator conversations on the Citadel) makes it clear she doesn't feel that way about aliens she actually knows, and she's amiable towards, Garrus, Wrex, Liara and Tali. She also has a pretty good reason for not trusting aliens, and she does grow out of it.

I used Ashley a lot in my first playthrough for tactical reasons (I was an engineer, so taking Ashley and Liara was the optimal squad composition), and that's why I chose her as the VS (I've let Kaidan live on other playthroughs). She's not my favourite character by a long shot, but like I said, I don't dislike her.

Plus, he seems to be in the wrong game. Not to mention he's clearly only there because TIM doesn't do fights and I guess they've done the assuming control thing already.

I also hate him the same way I hate any bad guy that you have to fight multiple times but can't actually kill until the last one. On Thessia he pretty much did nothing but crouch down crying about needing to regenerate and getting that Gunship to look after him. He'd have been dead in seconds without all that back up. He's just an annoying, weaker version of that rouge spectre in LOTSB.

Y U NO like Zaeed??? You must really hate me then, since I'm constantly waxing guddamn nostalgic. I remember this one time in Al Taqaddum... All the guys were bored since we were grounded in a sandstorm, so we got some elastic and water balloons to make a sizable slingshot... Things got ugly for some officers that day...
:P

Personally, I could never stand Liara. Too monotone, too fast... Cuttlefish for a head... I think Tali is the only LI that doesn't annoy me in any way.

The monotone thing is her most annoying feature. When I first met her I thought it was what Asari were like, but it turned out they can be very expressive with their voice with no problem. So it seems it was just her thing, I suppose it goes with her workaholic attitude to some extent. But yeah, compared to Tali, it just becomes silly.

I think actually the helmet gave Mrs Sroka an advantage when doing the voice. Having your voice put on to someone elses computer animated expression can cause a lot of your more subtle work to be totally lost. It's not a problem if you've got that high tech LA Noire facial tracking stuff going on, but for most games you can loose a lot due to the visual expressions taking a different approach to the voice actor. It's interesting just how much you can pick up from someones voice. Studies have shown people are better judges of if someone is lying or not just through their voice (over a phone for instance) rather then face to face, despite popular belief saying it's all in the eyes and body language. The voice is incredibly powerful and while it may be harder to conciously take note of all the subtle changes in inflection and tone, our sub-concious brains are actually far more capable.

And that is part of why Tali comes through so well. With a good voice actress and excellent writing she couldn't really fail and I'm glad they achieved both of those.

Meanwhile Liara's monotone voice left her at a disadvantage.

Liara has a Reaper for a head when you think about it. Also, liked Zaeed, hated Jack, found Liara meh, hated Ashley and her xenophobia, Garrus became my bro, and Tali... Well was Talimanced.

I imagine Tali has quite a few accessories besides Nerve-Stim Pro.  I am sure she has settings to adjust her vision, environment settings in her suit, and obviously the ability to regulate what medicenes she takes.  I don't think she has a pair of gravity boots though.

I'd do a combination of both. All of which with her consent. At the end of the day, the consent is what really matters; forcing it makes everything go downhill.

Interesting logic. Killing someone is a traumatic experience, so you'd rather pass it down to one of your subordinates to save yourself the trouble of expending bullets?

Ammo is never a waste if it reaches it's desired target.

The first time I played ME was the first game, and it was in french. French!Liara is awesome, only F!Garrus is as good as her.

F!Tali lacks the cute accent, but she is good.

And then I switched to english for 2, and was disappointed by Liara's dub, monotone indeed. While Tali went from cute to cuteness made flesh.
