The only faction that has made a meaningful push towards peace concerning the geth/quarian conflict is the quarians.
But then again Saphra, the Geth have never actively gone to war against the Quarians since they attained their freedom. Yes, I know they attack anything that enters their space but having the first moments of your race's sapience baptised in war will do that. What I mean is that the Geth have not actively hunted down and destroyed the Quarian Flotilla. I get the impression from Legion that the Geth still...look up to the Quarians I guess.

Since ME3 will be mainly about uniting all the races to fight the reapers, i really hope the Rannoch war will be long and interesting. I hope that at the end there will be an option to keep the completly repogram the geth to help them rebuild the planet and fight the reapers of course.

However, both sides have to agree to negotiate and not just shoot each other on sight.

Edit:
I'VE GOT IT! Halfway through ME3 you have to sneak aboard the Flotilla, kidnap the Admiralty Board and stick them in a room with Legion (or another Geth 2.0 (one that can talk)) until they reach a ceasefire agreement or an actual peace treaty.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case. If Legion dies as the second fire team leader it attempts to upload itself, but doesn't get a signal for the Geth network (which makes sense, considering how isolated the Collecter base is) and so Legion's memories die with him.Swordfish56 wrote...
I'm pretty sure that even if the mobile platform that Shepard calls Legion is destroyed, the memories are transmitted (prior to death) back to the Geth Collective.
Legion's last words were, "Barriers overwhelmed. Auto-saving. Archival upload commencing. No carrier. No carrier. No carrier. No-".
There is a chance, however, that Legion contacted the Geth network in the time after its conflict with Tali and before the Suicide Mission. In this case it wouldn't matter so much if Legion died.

I'm not very hopeful about negotiations (well, outside of meta-gaming). Neither side has any reason to trust the other and they are imbalanced.

What could the quarians possibly offer the geth? They don't have anything they want or anything to give.

They could give the Geth their word that they'll stop trying to wipe out/ re-enslave them. That's practically all the Geth want: To exist freely. And it's also the only thing that Legion says is getting in the way of peace.

I don't think a chance at peace would be lost. Legion could have had it's programs taken back to the geth hub before it's death. It would be preferred if it survived though, it's the closest thing to an ambassador. A cold, killing ambassador.
I currently am thinking that there will likely be a to stop the conflict between the Quarians and the Geth. Several factors from ME2 could make it easyer (such as both Tali and Leagion living, having solved thier conflict in ME2 without losing loyaly, etc) or harder (if either or both died, lost one's loyalty due to conflict, gave evidence to the admrals in Tali's loyalty mission, etc)
If you fail to stop the fighting you will have to pick a side and hope for the best.

Yeah, that sounds like something Bioware would do. Reward the long-sighted and punish the ones who made bad choicesTheWerdna wrote...

Yes, very subtle, Tali.Saphra Deden wrote...
All she says is that the acid tanks were set up for a reason. Same with Ashley if you bring her there with Wrex.
You are missing something. Tali doesn't love Xen(sadly, heh), so she can say whatever she wants about her.Saphra Deden wrote...
Yes, and that love has turned her into a hypocrite. She won't allow her father's to pay for his crimes but she'll gladly insult Xen for her views, despite Xen giving her no reason to do so. Tali is rather rude to her. If Rael doesn't deserve to have all the good he's done wiped away then neither should Xen.
And her father wasn't the only reason.
"For the good of the fleet." Tali

The Geth want to build a Dyson Sphere, a construct which will house every Geth program in existence. If someone tries to stop them, they'll end them. Simple idea really. Same as me getting rid of someone whose having a negative impact on my plans for the future.

Handing over the evidence on Tali's Loyalty mission could make the migrant fleet itself splinter meaning there is no unified migrant fleet to negotiate with. If you did both... wow no Quarians or Geth to back you up. That's bad.
As for the geth not coming out and attempting to negotiate before Legion... remember what we're dealing with an emergent sapience. Most platforms aren't capable of forming sentences let alone consider negotiating for an end of hostilities. It may be that the geth were incapable of thinking that far ahead or from the perspective of the organics whom they would be attempting to contact.
As for Rannoch we don't know... Legion was a first contact platform, not really given authority to negotiate terms, or is unwilling to reveal such terms yet. It may be as simple as stop attacking or attempting to enslave us, or it could be as convoluted as some sort of exchange... we just don't know.

Take from that what you will.
Also, I sometimes wonder if the Geth cleaning up Rannoch has something to do with them echoing their former coding to serve the Quarians. Perhaps they do it because they feel it gives them purpose?
