It is explained that if quarians or turians do eat food meant for species of levo-amino acids, then usually it will pass through their system without providing any nutrition. It is only in rare cases that someone with dextro amino acids will have an anaphylactic shock (throat closes up) and could die. But like HellBovine said, it seems blown out of proportion. It is only in rare cases that a quarian (or turian) would die as a result.

And drinking actual poison didn't seem to bother Shepard that much either.

At the dark star lounge, go and talk to the bartender and he gives u 3 shots of something, then a batarian ale, and finally ryncol which makes him end up sick in the bathroom.

no, thats on Omege during the other time Shepard passes out as the result of drinking. The one where he drinks ryncol is in the bar at the Citadel.

I think you got like halfway and then said it was taking too much time. I have it around here somewhere...

Also, quarians have something called antimatter alcohol. It doubles to work as machinery fluid as well.
