Well he does kind of say it with the "keelah se'lai " before fighting the reaper, I.e I swear by the homeworld [That he reciprocates it], mabye they wanted to avoid a cliche there, but I am sure it would have been nice to hear it somewhere else.
 

This. I hear/use that cliche every day and I don't necessarily need to hear it again in a game. It would be fine if they had Shep say it later, but the initial "Keelah se'lai" response needs to stay, it added a lot more to that scene by putting a unique spin on it. Maybe Patrick Weeks' reasoning behind it was that he wanted to make the relationship a bit Han Solo-ey. For that, I salute him.

Ah yes, I actually liked that line he said a lot.  It almost felt like something I would say to Tali.  Probably the best line Shepard has said to Tali.  Now, if only we had a "I love you" that wasn't quoted from Tali in there...then it would be great.

I agree with this.  There was times I honestly felt like those two were still flirting eventhough Tali was with Shepard.  ex: Her reaction to the chocolate he got.  That part should have probably been different for romanced Tali, but I just shrugged it off as my imagination or not interpting what was said correctly.

Actually, I took away the feeling that Tali was definitely teasing Garrus because he did not understand the implied interest that Dr. Michele was showing.

That was how I read that one too. But still, there were some scenes where they were having a nice cosy chat while not speaking to you that made it feel a bit awkward. The most notable being their pre-earth chat, which is fine if you just do the "you guys rock" speach and then walk away, but if you stick around they are standing their gazing into each others eyes while dismissing your attempts at conversation. I know it's not intentional, but it seems had they either not made that bit an auto-conversation (because it'd be easy to have them go back to their usual locations after a proper conversation scene) or actually had your bedroom meeting with Tali pre-Earth rather then pre-TIMbase (which would have made more sense for the whole "long jounrey" thing too) it wouldn't have mattered at all. But standing around about to land on earth without being able to chat to your LI (or your best friend for that matter) sucks. Good job they get the extra goodbyes on Earth.

This might also be part of a confirmed bug related to Kaiden surviving Virmire, or not being nice enough to Ashley in ME3 if she survived. It kills a HUGE chunk of dialogue in engineering. Don't remember if there was a lot more Tali/Shepard dialogue that gets slashed because of it though.

But I guess I wasn't nice enough :[ does that mean you have to accept her affections when you see her in the hospital? Kuz I was all paragon right up until she said "Not that... you'll need my permission."  Didn't want to get trapped in a romance with her again >__>

That's eventually one of the conclusions I came to as well.  It wasn't my initial thought though when I first saw it.

I think in some way the lines are designed to be taken in different ways depending on context. Since it seems they had planned a Garrus/Tali romance since ME2, I'm not surprised they wrote it a lot of the scenes in a way that the context can change. Although that also leads to a certain amount of annoyance from Talimancers.

Well if you got the Gabby/Ken dialogue/flirting and Tali accidentally breaking the ship you avoided the bug. But yes, she has to be either romanced or very-good-friend status apparently. Lucky you, though... I have to replay an entire three games so I can have one where she's not a smoking crater in the ground....

I know by the end of the convo things are sorted out but its that bit that confuses me.

If you choose the paragon route (most do) where Shepard mentions the status of the relationship during your first conversation with Tali, she will eventually say,

So if you're ever lonely, just let me know. or Do I still have you?

The way I see it, it's Tali who is displaying hesitation/uncertainty here. 

Nothing between us has changed.... unless you want it to. 

With multiple wars and demanding responsibilities, both Shepard and Tali are unsure if either feel the same way about the relationship.

I didn't come up here just to see the fish.

I want you here, with me.

Both are reassuring one another, but to me Shepard is the one who's being more bold and direct in establishing clarity. He's putting his foot down, making his feelings as clear as possible, and you can hear the satisfaction from Tali with her short response.

He is implying playfully that he "owns" her in a sexually dominant kind of way. I dunno why I'm the only one who saw it that way... O_o

I think you're misinterpreting it...
Tali was being insecure, Shepard was reminding her that he called her up there because of his feelings towards her, and was being firm and unshakeable about it, being her support while she was under a lot lot of stress as an admiral.

Technically, you need an approval rating of 8, if that actually means anything to you lol
It can be done without romancing her, but you basically have to talk to her constantly, and take her out on missions. I think you also have to give her a gift in the hospital or something:?
I dunno, she's ....... absent ........ in my playthorughs. There is, however, a work-around using the gibbed save editor. Near the bottom of the page, posted by a gentlemen named ParasiteX

You can fix that with the gibbed save game editor. There is info somewhere on it, I quoted it in this thread ages back but don't recall it. Just a couple of strings you have to modify that makes the game think Ashley is your friend, even if she's only a friendly zombie.

EDIT: Damn it, will people stop reading my mind and posting stuff seconds before I get it out.
