This. Considering that males have two toes instead of three, there's at least as much difference in skeletal structure and almost certainly more than you see in humans.StellarMagic wrote...
EDIT: As for the different helmet design... maybe Quarians have much more significant sexual dimorphism then humans. Different head shape for example.

Actually... if other Rannoch life suffered the same sort of immuno deficiency that quarians do then it'd probably be a good idea to go in a fully sealed and sterilized set of armor. Not to protect yourself but to protect the local lifeforms from you.
Now... this is apparently not the case because we've seen demo footage from a geth base on Rannoch in ME3 and Shepard, Garrus, and Liara clearly aren't bothering with such things.

Given that Quarians didn't need suits until the whole 'being stuck in a massive fleet' thing happened, I would think that while the immune systems might possibly be on the weak side as well, the native life would still have a markedly stronger immune system than quarians do currently. That and the nasty bugs that a leivo-protene being might carry on to the planet with them would die from starvation as they can't get the nutrients they need. Remember, there have been other races on the planet way before the whole geth thing happened.
Edit: Forgot to capitalize the deminym

A chimp shares 98% of our DNA. There happens to be alot of sick people in history who have tried to breed the two and they don't work because a 2% difference is more than enough to make breeding impossible let alone a 100% difference. Leave the Quarian/human babies in the bad fanfics.

The ide of a human and Quarian having a baby is the most insane thing I've ver heard. Of all the species in the galaxy the Quarians and Turians would be the least possible because they don't even have the same DNA as us. They share no DNA with our specie, you'd be more likely to have a baby with a bannana because at least it shares 50% of our DNA. If we can't even eat the same food what makes you think our reproductive material wouldn't utterly destroy eachother like a massive allergic reaction.

My theory is that most of the people asking for a hybrid come from a fantasy background, spoiled by half elves and whatnot.

It's taken 300 years for their imune system to become that weak and as for Helmet-less Shepard on Rannoch, it wold be plausible since Shep didn't wear it on Haestrom.

You dare report me? The Great Made Nightwing? I was throwing childish tantrums on Star Trek forums back when you were still playing Starcraft 1.

Shepard: Okay, I got a spare ammo block, two thermal clips, and a credit chit. Oh, and a stick of chewing gum.
Tali: Perfect.
*Five minutes later the door explodes outward flattening two Cerberus soldiers. Shepard peaks out and grabs a rifle.*
