The Flood, they used to scare me when I first saw them!

I always wanted a fuision ramjet drive. Though a solar sail would add nicely to the crazy look.

At the moment I'm crossing my fingers for the vasimir engine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasimir

Now we just need the Quarian engineers to fix em Image IPB

Ohh, yeah, I have read about them. I'm sure our Quarian friends could knock one up in their sleep.

Uh, that is build one, not get one pregnant.

Fusion ramjet. We know exactly how they would work, and can't build anything like them for crap. Its about as crazy as

*snipped flat earth on elefants on flying turtle*

Still better than the ME3 ending! Also, who associated this crazy thing with atheists? I want to injure them.

What the... Atheists? ... That makes NO sense...

EDIT: Yup still better ending. Image IPB

This place is mad.

That is my point. Things make no sense a lot of the time. We know how to travel faster than light, but can't make anything go even .5% of C. It's as crazy as someone beliving that atheists actually believe in something like that pic.

Well that was certainly crazy. It did make more sense then the Starchild mind. Though It should have been a giant spaghetti monster.

To be fair, not believing in god(s) doesn't mean you also don't believe in the discworld. Though I'd find it unlikely. Still if they are pro-science they may believe the many world theory and then I guess... it's possible.

I think I missed the news of Faster Than Light travel being possible. Image IPB

I thought scientists could only make particles go FTL currently.

We can't make ANYTHING go C+ right now. We know HOW to make spaceships go C+ though. We figured out warp drive. We did the math, we know the energy it would require. We only have 2 problems: we have nowhere near the amount of energy required to mess with space/time like that, and we have no mechanism by which space/time can be manipulated at range.

Kind of. The experiment needs repeating and re-analysising and probably repeating again and then it could just(!) be that the particle took a shortcut through an unseen dimension or something. But yeah potentially.

Also information can move faster then light via Quantum Entanglement. Though at the moment, no one has done anything useful with it.

Turns out those particles never went FTL. There was a slight fault with one of the cables somewhere that delayed something by a very small fraction, which meant that the time taken appeared wrong on the recieving end, or something to that effect.

Anyway, I'm leaving this crazy, bonkers place for today. But I still love you all, you lunatics.

EDIT: have a picture that I just dredged up for the top of the thread.

The QEC was one of the few things in the ME universe that was absolutely plausible. Too bad biotics, eezo, and all mass effect technology is based on ridiculous premises.

I was quite impressed they included something that made sense. I've always thought you could use it for communication. I would have thought it would be more limited then shown on ME, the holograms seemed a bit indulgent. But it was still cool.

I didn't mind the other stuff though, I was expecting that kind of thing from a computer game. All in all it wasn't too bad. There were plenty of sillier things in the games anyway.

Yep. We have the math. We have the physics. We have the raw materials. We do not have the engineering prowess or raw energy to do so. Not getting to Alpha Centauri in my lifetime. Image IPB

Depends how long you live ;)

You know as much as I'm enjoying this discussion (and I am), I do wonder if we're straying a bit too far from the Tali stuff.

EDIT and PS: Ah my lady friend made up with her boyfriend. I am happy for her... and ... I'll just keep repeating that till I believe it. *lol*

Cryogenic fugue is either 100% bullcrap or a complete misnomer. If you freeze a mammal, it dies. Irretrievably. You need true stasis, but the only way I can think of doing that is slowing down time itself. Difficult.
