Tali just seems like she would be curious about essentially any facet of a culture, including metal, or any other form of music. She doesn't strike me as one to turn something down before experiencing it for herself.

I am thinking that is from growing up on the fleet,  very contained world.

I kind if figure this is part of the purpose of the pilgramage.

It is a sexually dimorphic trait. Quarian females are as tall as the males. Quarian females are just as important as males in quarian society. Tali seems pretty possesive over you when you 'mance her. An appendage on one sex, generally smaller than the other, but in this case the same size, which has no cultural bias between the sexes, and the sex with the extra toe is possesive over mates. It fits.
