Yeah. ME2 shepard was about as loving and tender as a loaf of scrapple. ME3 fixes that a bit, but it is so agonizingly short. On both games, she pours her heart out to you, and the most she gets back is "i'm interested" and "we're still together...." Kinda makes me sad. was kind of indifferent. I found it frustrating. Seemed like the most
one-sided out of the romances that I've seen in ME3 (Tali, Ashley,
Garrus, and Liara). However, I agree about her character development.
In retrospect, some of that might have been with rose-colored glasses, me interpreting the presentation as I wanted it to be, projecting myself onto Shepard, the like. I just feel that as an rpg (perhaps not anymore in the typical sense, but for the most part still in the character sense), that this is a more acceptable response, as it's intended for the player to take on the persona of the character. And thus, Shepard became my proxy, and his recorded responses took on the role I wanted them to take.

*Yes, I'm aware it's just one of several doppelgangers that have suddenly infiltrated youtube.

It's an incredibly fine balancing act - teetering between making sure the lead role isn't so generic they're bland, but if they're not generic enough, people who roleplay a certain way will complain.exelsis wrote...

I personally really didn't appreciate Shepard snapping at Joker for... well... joking, after Thessia. A bit of blandness as an option wouldn't have gone amiss.
Sometimes kind of annoying to people like me who play as Shepard, but insert themselves elsewhere, but...

To be fair, all of the ME2 romances were very shallow and centered around sex. But you're right, as well. At least I know Jeff Shepard loves Tali, even if the writers don't show it as much as I'd like.

Tali is one of the most human characters in the game, but the problem is that shepard is more boring than the citadel returns guy. In-game, it is almost a one way relationship.N7Kopper wrote...

Personally I got annoyed with emo Shepard by the end of the game. Yes, I know fate of the Galaxy and Thessia was on his mind blah blah blah. But good God, in the romance scene Tali basically pours her soul out to him and says pretty much that whenever things are at their worst, she "reaches for you."N7Kopper wrote...

Come to think of it, this is probably why the majority of games like this (Fallout, Kingdoms of Amalur) don't voice the main character in dialog. I imagine a lot of choice was cut in ME3 (although removing the pretense of choice when you didn't really have any was nice, I can think of dialog wheels in 1 and 2 where the choices meant the same) due to having to fit two separate dialog sessions on the disc. The game already fits two discs on xbox as is, and recording (the vast majority of) lines for both Meer and Hale would take so much room.Neverwinter_Knight77 wrote...

But, yes. The ME2 romances were too sex-based. But that's likely due to backlash from the VS romances in ME1 being so natural most people ended up ninjamanced. Too far the other direction, like with the RPG elements.

Even still, I enjoyed the deeper ME1 style with the "ninjamancing" vs ME2, where it was basically "talk twice then get it on." That's basically what it boiled down to.N7Kopper wrote...

Lol, I couldn't sleep. I agree. Tali really expressed herself on an emotional leel in me3. In many ways she was shepherd guiding angel, keeping him on track. When shepherd doubted himself Tali was there. I really wanted the in game shepherd to show more emotions with Tali, but his blandness allowed my imagination to run wills. Which in many ways made the game more personal to me.
I really didn't like all the sex stuff in 2. I prefer the leading up and building trust, but still. tali is one if not the best and most well developed characters in video game history, to me.

I couldn't have said it better. I have only been here a couple of weeks and I already consider many of you if not all you friends. Everyone has been so kind, friendly and awesome to talk to. Where I live I'm sort of alone when it comes to mass effect. True. Shepard has always been one of the least interesting characters in ME for me. On the other hand, the Tali romance seems to have a lot of unspoken depth; there's a connection between them that doesn't seem to need words.4stringwizard wrote...
