Don't worry Gamer, i completely aim to steer clear of such...discussions.

@Dilan i did indeed read your idea. It was good, but....*sniffs*

My fanfic is alright with my email. I don't get that many messages. I quite like them.It makes me happy knowing someone has listed it as a fave story or a fave author or whatever...it gives me a warm feeling

just read the one in your signature and that was great. brought tears to my eyes when shepard almost died in tali's arms.

Thankyou!Image IPB

UT is in every science fiction universe. There is no way that elcor or hanar could ever speak any human language. But the translator is on the recieving side, not sending side. Tali does not have a translator in her suit/body to translate from khelish to english, shepard has one in/on his body to translate from anything into english. Every species has an everything->theirs on their own body, not everyone broadcasting their speech through a translator.

But I want to have the option of disabling the translator for a night, and just be with tali. No words, just love.

So, what else has been going on up here outside my police-state university?

When something involves Tali, its nothing short of amazing

Even if she ends up failing, its still amazing.

And with that, I must leave.  Good luck on your studies Gamer, and for those of us onboard the normandy, know when to start clapping.  Believe me, the reaction Shepard and Tali will have is bound to be priceless.

*hug back* I'm not letting go anymore. Might be my only chance to keep Panda Tali Extraordinaire close. At least imaginatively.

Yes, but it would have to be REAAAAly good to to selectively ignore translating some words for dramatic effect, Keelah and all that, to not have a really bland microsoft mike voice, but thats why its the one thing I can happily ignore. I doubt tali would be so appealing if she sounded like this http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ldlgS5mxgfc ' class='bbc_url' title='Lien externe' rel='nofollow external'>

Toodles Forthary!

Who'd put thane in a box? Surely he's way to kick-ass to fall for such a trick! Unless tali tricked him...

Not really. It is pretty easy to develop an extremely robust system for verbal languages. If you have vocal cords, a translator is a relitively simple thing to do. Kheelah'selai is not translated because it has no translation outside of khelish. Similar things exist between human languages.

But i'd want to just turn it off sometimes. Just listen to her untranslated words, completely lacking in understanding, but still knowing. To just snuggle with her, and murmur unintelligible noises to eachother, arms around eachother. Perfect. Image IPB

Actually, it sounds like this:

And no matter who speaks, it does. The rest is just dubbed by voice actors, the translator never evolved over the state of Joshua. Francis Kidd owns the majority shares on the Galactic Translation Cooperation.

Makes Tali's personality even more important.

But Keelah Se'Li  means By the homeworld I hope to see one day, but I agree its possible with all the other advances, I just don't want to think about it too much because I hate to be that kind of deconstructive nerd:blush:...

If you mean what I think you do, it isn't that simple. Because our vocal cords don't manipulate speech, they manipulate tone. If you wanted a true translator without any knowledge of the other language, the mouth, lips, teeth, tongue, etc would need to be controlled - not the vocal cords.

Not to mention that kind of translator would fix accents - which clearly isn't the case with Tali. She knows English. Otherwise she'd have awkward grammar.

To jump in on the translator discussion, i always thought that all species that could spoke a common "galactic language". I assumed it would be one of the Asari languages seeing as how they were the first to discover the citadel and share a similar vocal system to many other species. Occasionally a word from native language is thrown in and a translator may try to fix it, but not work quite right (like "Siha" for thane and "Keelah Se'lai" for Tali).

So tali knows english, and garrus knows english, and liara knows english, and wrex knows english, and they all speak english all the time? Prepesterous. The accent can be placed as highly advanced translator software. It doesn't just find the appropriate word and send it to the ear in a robot voice, it can sample the way a person talks, their tone and patterns of speaking, and constructs an artificial accent for them. More reasonable than the mercenary krogan learning english, or the militaristic turians learning the language of those apes that they almost wiped out.

@fatness, the codex mentions a "trade language". It is called an artificial language, but is likely based on asari, turian, and salarian languages, since they are the oldest of this cycle. Makes sense, but a trade language is bare and boring. It doesn't have anything but units and measurements and discrete description. You can't express much emotion using that kind of thing.
