Not to mention, how is it that the mouth movement of the aliens match their words? Or did they make a lip-movement-visual-production-holographic-system as well? XD

To jump in on the translator discussion, i always thought that all species that could spoke a common "galactic language". I assumed it would be one of the Asari languages seeing as how they were the first to discover the citadel and share a similar vocal system to many other species. Occasionally a word from native language is thrown in and a translator may try to fix it, but not work quite right (like "Siha" for thane and "Keelah Se'lai" for Tali).
It makes less sense that trillions of aliens across the galaxy know english than trillions of aliens across the galaxy have downloaded the "UT english: accent PRO" edition of the citadel standard UT.gamer_girl wrote...
It makes more sense that they know it than that they made the-accent-and-tone-creation-machine that serves no practical purpose whatsoever. >_>

You're not accounting for mouth movement matching their speech. Your logic is flawed.
The only reason they did it was obviously playability wise. But if we're looking at the details they've given us (accents and mouth movement matching) the only logical explanation is that they know the language.

And that explanation is illogical. Why would so many races across the galaxy learn the language of the new kid on the block? But really, it ISN'T the language of the new kid on the block. It is the language of this small portion of humanity. Mandarin and arabic are the most commonly spoken languages on earth, FAR more than english. If indians did not know english, it would be a miniscule portion of the population. So why in the nine hells would they learn that language? It is foolish. That batarian preacher on omega? Why is he preaching in ENGLISH that HUMANS are a blight on the galaxy? "humans are all racist!" YOU SAID THAT IN ENGLISH? WHY? Because he DIDN'T SAY IT IN ENGLISH. The translator MADE it into english! The mouth thing is just because no one in their right mind will take the time and money to make the lip movements for several alien languages when the sounds they make are in english.gamer_girl wrote...

To be fair though, the Normandy is a small ship. I doubt EDI would have needed monitoring devices to know Shepard and Tali got more personal. I have a feeling they where spending more time together "off camera" once into a relationship. even before a full on love scene I bet she was going up to his quarters more and more freqently, would not take an AI to connect the dots.
hmmm.....good point. Makes sense considering Garrus says on the Geth ship he was there when Shepherd and Tali had their "Thing" so the only way for him to know would be if they were on ship showing affecting in public or Shepherd told and in my mind my Sheperd is too much of a gentlemen to tell such things.

I'd imagine all races know english. When humanity was discovered, they became an important part of galactic society, so to know their lingo would make sense on a diplomatic and business point of view

I can explain it... game developers decided to make a universal language, so that we could understand what all races were saying, instead of having to read subtitles and listen to bizarre noises like you do in kotor.
Either that, or
