But then I'm also assuming Rannoch isn't a stereotypical 'world of hats' type SF world where the entire surface is one type of geographical feature.
The aridness would have a effect on what types of terrain would be most prevelent or rare. Deserts, grasslands, and such would be more common then on earth. Rainforests, swamps, and such would be much less commonly found than on earth. Forests would also likely be less common, but would likely still exist.
Edit: Earth during its ice ages would be a good example of this. Due to a larger amount of water being stuck in a frozen state, the enviorment as a whole would get more arid, sea level would drop, and such. Minus the increased cold, this could reflect what the Quarian homeworld could be like
