Hmm, was reading through some of the developer's posts on here, and I thought of a rather interesting question:

Let's say Tali made it with you inside the citadel. Both of you are in bad shape, Tali being the worst, but your alive. You went through the citadel, defeated the illusive man by some means, and saved Anderson from getting shot in the head. As you go to power up the crucible on the control panel however, a choice crisis faces Shepard. Tali needs first aid from Shepard because she can't stop bleeding, and Anderson is too weak to help her. Shepard has found a way for the crucible to fire and destroy only the reapers, but only if he stays at the control panel and keeps the power-up process stable; if he doesn't, he risks destroying more than just the reapers. There is not enough galactic readiness resources to save both. Would you save Tali if:

- The geth were at risk of being destroyed, and she insisted on you staying at the controls?

- The geth were at risk of being destroyed, and she didn't insist?

- Earth was at risk of being completely and utterly destroyed, as in turned into a asteroid field?

- The majority of the quarian fleets would risk being in the field of fire by saving her?

- A majority of any other non-rare ally fleets would risk being in the field of fire by saving her?

- A majority of rare ally fleets (I.E.: Their overall numbers in the galaxy are low, similar to the quarians but worse) would risk being in the field of fire by saving her?

- The local mass relay was at risk of being destroyed?

- Several mass relays were at risk of being destroyed?

- You knew you weren't going to make it in addition to the geth being destroyed, even though Tali insisted on you saving the geth, because your implants would short out from being so close to the blast?

Apply all the medi-gel, 3 seconds to keep her alive as long as possible. Try to activate the ultimate macguffin, if tali dies, finish the power-up, activate a grenade, embrace her until the void.

Then again, point is moot because the relay kills everyone anyway, the citadel and crucible both explode with you on them, and you can't survive a crash landing to earth. The choice is save tali long enough to have her hate you for dooming everyone to death under the reapers and then die, or try to keep her alive long enough so you can witness your victory together, before dying together. I pick option #2.

If the geth were going to be killed I would save Tali.
If the Earth was at risk I would save Tali. Humanity has other worlds.
If the majority of the Quarian fleet was at risk I would save Tali. They have quarians on Rannoch who are safe.
If the majority of the/a non-rare species was at risk I would save Tali. They would survive. They have worlds.
If the majority of the/a rare species was at risk I would save Tali. They would survive. They have worlds.
If the local mass relays were at risk of being destroyed I would save Tali. We would FTL our way to a relay.
If several mass relays were at risk of being destroyed I would save Tali. We would FTL our way to a new relay. It may take a while, but cryogenic freezing or stasis fields can be utilized to preserve the individuals in transit to their homes. Hopefully, new Mass relays can be built or something similar.
I would always save Tali. Always.

I read your trepidation fic just yesterday - really enjoyed it. last part of section 15 was fantastic.

Thank you alot.  Hearing that really is a good motivator to work on it...

Speaking of which, I've been occupied with remastering my first fic, the prequel to Trepidation...

I've...been enjoying the MASSIVE changes I've been making.  It's going to be amazing when I put it back into the world to see. But I won't release it until I've remade the whole thing.  That way, I can release in steps to keep people hooked.  ;D

Wow. I just realized that I can't imagine any way of surviving the ME3 ending. Every single path leads to death. I need to make my own.

Tali in her underwear in a futile attempt to make me less sad!

To answer my own questions:

forthary wrote...

- The geth were at risk of being destroyed, and she insisted on you staying at the controls?

If I can't convince her, or if she states that she will leave me if I save her, then no.  It's her dying wish.

- The geth were at risk of being destroyed, and she didn't insist?

Yes.  The geth are machines.  They can be rebuilt.

- Earth was at risk of being completely and utterly destroyed, as in turned into a asteroid field?

Probably, though I am not sure.  I think I can keep it to myself that earth would have been destroyed by firing this.  It'll be hard dealing with such a enormous loss...but I think I can deal with it.

- The majority of the quarian fleets would risk being in the field of fire by saving her?

Unless she says something, they have their homeworld back.  The quarians are free to repopulate.  I'm not sure though, I may be heavily tramuatized if I do.  I think I would need to ask Tali first.   She would probably say don't worry about it.

- A majority of any other non-rare ally fleets would risk being in the field of fire by saving her?

I'd save her.

- A majority of rare ally fleets (I.E.: Their overall numbers in the galaxy are low, similar to the quarians but worse) would risk being in the field of fire by saving her?

Considering that's its the majority and not all of them, probably.  Though their numbers would be dangerously close to extinction.

- The local mass relay was at risk of being destroyed?

I would save her.  I'm sure we can move a mass relay or something.

- Several mass relays were at risk of being destroyed?

The whole galaxy would suffer at the loss of several, but I think we can adapt.  I would probably save her.

- The entire mass relay system was at risk of being destroyed?

It would mean absolute chaos if everyone were to be stuck here.  Tali would probably insist that I keep going, so I wouldn't save her.  I couldn't put her through the hell I would leave behind if I did, although we could just get a ship and keep away from the crowds as they tear apart all of earth and the entire sol system from being stuck in a overcrowded place with no way to get home.   So I wouldn't save her.

- You knew you weren't going to make it in addition to the geth being destroyed, even though Tali insisted on you saving the geth, because your implants would short out from being so close to the blast?

I would crawl over to her and share my last breaths with her.

I know what you're describing is hypothetical, but how would this be achieved? Disruption, as opposed to incineration that is.

Ah, I forgot to mention, the citadel doesn't get destroyed whether or not you choose to save her, even if all of earth is destroyed.  Shepard gets picked up by a passing ship whether or not he chose to save Tali.  Will edit original post to clarify.

I probably eggagerated what I meant to say.  Earth would be blown up into many, many, many small pieces.  There wouldn't be a planet there anymore.

I understood you. Just asking how would that enormous feat be achieved.

Sorry, I love science fiction and I'm aware of its many cliches, but "exploding planets" is definitely a peeve of mine. Don't mind me. Carry on.

About seven days worth of energy released by the Sun in the case of Earth, at a minimum.

Great, now you have me watching videos of earth blowing up.  Thanks.

I wonder if Tali would approve of blowing up planets other than Rannoch...

@forthary

If the entire Mass Relay system would be destroyed then I think I would still save Tali. Everyone stuck on Earth could be put into cryogenic sleep or stasis for the extremely long journey back to their home planets. Every capable engineer would remain and try to devise a way to rebuild the relays. Almost everyone would need to be put under like this to stave off starvation and such. The galaxy would be put on hold until the relays or a suitable substitute could be built.
Hope would still be there.
I am uncertain however due to the high improbability/impossibility of being able to construct relays from salvaged Reapers and such.
I might stop the reapers and protect the Mass Relays. If I began to die due to my implants then i would crawl over to Tali, remove her mask, gaze into her eyes, and kiss her in our last moments.

And what is a reader without a writer's material to read?
