She's an alien. Not a human in a suit.

I mean, scan in a real-world face and then modify it so that it looks more alien.

This is true for turians/quarians too when it comes to asari/human/ect food.

Well if it was my shepard he would be stumbling around from all the brain bleach he had to use to get the image out of his head. The last thing I want is to have a supermodel Tali.SuperEngineer wrote...

out of curiosity does anyone know who's face is in that Tali mask?
I dont whos face it is but if the use a face it should totaly be a models face and because Tali is a great character and to make it fair to all Tali fans because Liara T'soni's image was created using Jillian's face and body, Yvonne Strahovski had her face scanned and animated portray Miranda Lawson.
Tali face could be scanned from someone great like Megan fox
*pic cut*
If this is the face Shepard look at in ME2 i bet he was dancing all the way through the collector mission

And honestly? Less toes and fingers don't really make a design look alien. Deformed, possibly, but you need an alien face for it to be effective.

Why not? Liara got a human face model.
If we are to go by her voice, it sounds similar enough to ours. Not as different as the Krogan or Turians. So it would suggest her vocal chords/mouth is similar enough to ours.
But that's all we really know.
The features we see through her mask are nothing but a placeholder. Could she have a relatively human appearance with only minor differences like the placeholder suggests? Sure.
But it is just a placeholder and Bioware may decide that the Asari are the last of the Star Trek "let's change their skin colour but keep them mostly human but still call them aliens" thing.
Star Trek had a reason for their aliens being so similar to humans - because the basis of all their species were seeded by an ancient race of humanoids a long, long time ago throughout the galaxy.
Mass Effect does not have that. So they shouldn't be trying to make their aliens humanoid.

Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans. Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which include a thumb and an index finger, as well as three toes on each foot. Their lower legs are bowed backwards significantly, compared to asari or humans. Aside from hands and legs, their general body shape and sexual dimorphism is similar to humans. Their ears or ear analogues differ in a noticeable fashion from those of humans, with references made to "what [passes] for the quarian version of an ear".
I think it was a codex entry in like... both games..

Well I feel a lot of antipathy for Germans now since thouse present at Gamescom voted agains showing Talis face !!
As a German I must disavow this obviously stupid decision by my countrymen. Please remember that those people were obviously only a small sample, one with apparent bad taste.

I'm with this, since I dont really want Tali to look like some human female with a face that is tarted up to look "better", then scanned in, worse if it was similar to the one posted above, firstly because that looks miranda-ish, and secondly, it'd be the same as every other lazily created female in my oppinion.
Just gets boring when every face is based off some tarted up actress.
Tarted being, for the uninitiated, being made to look far better than they really do and probably looking bad due to it at the same time.

But yes, I think that there are already characters there for 'obvious sex appeal.' Part of the appeal of Tali is that the relationship between her and Shepard isn't based on physical attraction (although I assume there are elements of it there.) But it is based on loyalty, stability and mutual respect. The relationship began before Shepard saw Tali's face, which is a show of trust in itself.
If Tali turns out to look like some attractive human, then it completely gives a 180 on the basis of their relationship. Whereas if Tali looks alien, then it gives a lot more depth to the relationship.
And I agree Sarevok, no to tarted up actresses.

I disagree, you don't even need the fused fingers and such, something could look just like a human, but be completely alien to humans, because of language, culture, mannerisms, physical attributes. Look at Superman as an example, he looks so human, he can hide out as one, but he's completely alien to humans, because he can throw buildings and fly. I don't think they have to "prove she's an alien" by making her look like the Predator lol. What she looks like, she looks like, but I was never on board with the idea, that she has made to look alien, like it has to be proven that she's not human or something.

agree with you, some people want her to look extremely alien for the sake of it, like some people are afraid that making quarians rather human looking is bad. Different is not the same as original and I think that Bioware can pull off the human looking aspect they are already said to have while still making them rather alien through other means accomplishing something actually original.

having human looking aliens makes about as much sense as finding platypuses on 4 different planets.....but the only difference between them is a slight change in fur color, tail length, and one of the 4 has 3 claws instead of 5....it's just not believable...
such a thing WOULD be believable if they were from the same planet...hell, they could get away with it with some panspermia and gene tampering if it's within the same system....but 3 different species from 3 very distant parts of the galaxy with absolutely no genetic commonality (hell, one of them isn't even apart of the same chirality) that look almost exactly the same except for differences that would normally pass off as differences seen in ethnicities or breeds (like dogs and stuff).....makes no sense at all
that's just my opinion, though

One more point: They shouldn't be 'alien' or human like. They should be quarian like. Alien for the sake of alien is as bad creatively as blue human looking space lesbians just to get the 14-22 demographic interested.

I can't say for certain but I think I read somewhere that the reason why everybody looks human in Star Trek is because they essentially share a common ancestor or something (I'm sorry if I butchered the actual explanation)
also, I don't want to sound ungrateful (too bad, I'm already on BSN) but I don't think we should feel lucky that BioWare only gave use 3 color swapped humans. They should give us aliens...I understand WHY everyone has essentially a human body plan: modeling/animation issues +timing.....to use an exaggerated example: I shouldn't feel grateful that I got fed 2 expired sandwiches today because someone else served another person playdough sandwiches
I am grateful for what BioWare has done and given us and how much they respond to fan feedback...hell, Tali wouldn't even be a romance if they didn't....I don't want to come across as an ungrateful little ****, Mass Effect is literally my favorite series...
I also don't think they should look alien for aliens sake, I think they should look different for believability's sake...I'm not asking for 5 eyed fish-bugs with tentacles for tongues and horns for mustaches but I also don't want purple/gray humans....it's not believable given the circumstances....

Just going to put this out there: No one complained when Star Trek and Star Wars did it. With half their races. We should feel lucky that ONLY the asari and quarians (judging from their description in books/ingame placeholder) are very similar to humans.
