I think it's more that they can't accept the notion that a character other than their personal favourite gets so much attention. And let's be honest, some of the people in this thread are guilty of that as well when it comes to Liara.
While I must admit to this feeling of character preference, Liara does have the most dialogue of any character (Besides Shepard), and has not one, not two, but Three missions where she is a VIS (Very Important Squadmate): Mars, Thessia, and even Palaven's Moon (FOUR if you count the Prothean DLC). Liara has the most cutscene interactions and "One on One" moments with Shepard, and is even available as a LI for both Males and Females.
Obvious developer character preference aside, it is interesting to see other people's opinions on certain characters, and not just due to their own preferences. For those who love Liara, all is well; Those who went for Ashley or Kaidan had somewhat distrustful relationships in the beginning and also seemed to lack dialogue (but had long romance scenes), those of us who romanced Tali (

) or Garrus got great dialogue and romance development, but with fewer cut-scene interactions than I would have liked to see (and with the occasional cringe-worthy slip-up in Shepard's script), but for those who liked Thane, Kelly, Miranda, Jack...they all got the short-end of the stick in ME 3 (ME 3 only romances aside). Those who went for Jacob even more so, as they only got a lame excuse and a cheating partner. Wrex and Grunt had their moments, but Samara, Zaeed and Kasumi were barely mentioned as characters (though the last two probably due to the DLC requirements; still would've liked to see more).
I like to give all characters a chance, though, and while I was perturbed over how much attention Liara got, I wasn't going to kill her off over it. Choosing the geth over Tali and the quarians is something I could never willingly do, and refuse to witness. How others could choose to do so in good conscience is beyond me.
