Well this is probably getting into creepy or maybe cruel territory, but me and my significant other plan to name our daughter's first and middle name in a Quarian fashion. It took some convincing though.

It is true, the problem is finding a right name. The middle name is going to be Vas (crew of) as Nar (child of) just doesn't ring well with our last name.
We worked out the first part of the name, Alanni, but we are still working out a "full" first name that sounds great, but when shortened won't get her picked on in school.
Actually any ideas for working out the second part of her first name would be appreciated.

If they wanted to maintain a zero population growth, they actually would want two children per couple instead of one. Having only one child would actually reduce the population.

Tali'Zorah haiku:
Quarian pilgrim,
adrift among open stars;
When will she return?
*
Woman in paisley,
eyes aglow and shape curvy;
I adore her voice.
*
Have you heard about
the engineer with shotgun?
She solves all problems!
*
Dancing before me,
purple clad hips a-swaying;
She moves in my dreams.
*
Three fingers per hand,
bucket head and chicken feet;
She's the girl for me!

Is it one child policy? After all, if they wanted to reduce population you'd think they'd reinstate capital punishment rather than use exile so the punished can still have children...
Indeed. I don't think that Quarians has one child policy per se. Not in the way of getting more children would cause some capital punishment. I just think that this one child per couple is more like recommendation, which everyone are more or less respecting.
Also I think that the whole point of having only one child is matter of resources and space. Now if assume that there would be pretty much equal number of female and male among Quarian fleet, which would mean about 8 million of both. Now if we assume that they would all get children, then the total number of Quarian people would raise. with only one child, it would be roughly 24 million. But if every couple would get two children, then the total number would climb up to 32 million. Even if we assume that it's not that 8 million, but something like 4 or 5, even then the total number after having children would be 20-21 or 24-26 millions.
Now this is example is of course greatly simplified as it doesn't take into account of the many basic matters. Like the fact that not all those 8 million female/Male would form couples and that they would have children or that how natural decrease of population would affect or how about those who have unnatural death (during missions or accidents and in Quarian case Exile and never returning from Pilgrimage, which basically means these people doesn't really belong to overall numbers of Quarians) and so on.
However what this example does show is that with only one child, it's much easier to control the total population and keep it in around 17 millions. Now if we again assume that there would be those 8 million couples with one child or even better only 4 millions with one child, the total population would be that between 20-21 and 24 millions. That's still too much, but it would be a lot more controllable. Natural and unnatural death overtime and the small percent of never returning Quarians and exiled ones could easily reduce total number from 20-21/24 million back to that 17 million. But with two children per couple, this would be much harder to achieve.
So, after this, hopefully not that complicated posts, I would say that having only one child is much better when you want to control your population. Allowing everyone having two child would make it nearly impossible to keep total number of people around that 17 millions, which seems to be maximum for the tolerability of Quarian fleet resources and space.

And here I though I was the only one who suffered from this...minus the Jack romance, could never get passed the fact that she seems unstable. Tali's always gets to me from the I got you bit to the I never trusted any one besides you bit. Its like a weakness I tell you.

I would be ok with this...then that means the galaxy is actually running along just fine and Desire Tali is making me live an illusion that I'm an immortal badass taking on armies of Mecha Cthulhus
