Edit: Does anybody have a link to that Razors Edge fan fic?

Which one ?

"Razors Edge" ?
"Razor's Edge Dark Witness" ?
Or "Razor's Edge Requiem" ?

Posted Image

All three!

Chronologically: Razor's Edge, Dark Witness, Requiem

Razor's Edge

Razor's Edge: Dark Witness

Razor's Edge: Requiem

The author just put up Chapter 9 a few days ago for Requiem, and generally puts out a new chapter every week or so.  Definately one of the best retellings of ME 2 and 3 out there, although it can get pretty heavy at times.  Truly an inspiring Tali/Shepard piece.

Also enjoyed this author's works as well; chronologically, The Darkest Night, For We Are Many:

The Darkest Night

Describes the events that happened between ME 1 and 2, focusing on the crew of the Normandy as Shepard is rebuilt by Cerberus.

For We Are Many

Begins at the start of ME 2; proceeds similar to the game, but begins to deviate in later chapters.

Most recently, Chapter 23 is up, although the author may take between one and two weeks for new chapters.

Both series are incredibly well detailed, and show no signs of slowing down.  Also, be sure to read up on Ryugi's, Terror's, and Calinstel's pieces as well: lot's of reading and inspiration for writing to be had.  Enjoy!

I know them, read them all !

Trying to write my own as well right now. Didn't realize how difficult it could be to write in order of events, when you already have ideas of where you want to take the story later. Still, making do with what I have, and if anything it's a constructive use of free time.

Getting late here, so I'll be off soon. Try and write some more for my own work when I'm not reading others.

Ok, Tali is out of her suit on Rannoch, what casual wear does she chose?

These are great concepts.

You should try not to confuse emotional engagement with quality. Not to say they are bad or anything but the fanbase in this thread is going to be far more forgiving due to the fact they are already emotionally attached to the characters. This creates a suspension of the critical eye. You don't want to see flaws in the writing, so you don't. Nothing wrong with that and its one of the reasons I still occasionally read fanfics.

However, if you ever go back and read fanfics you enjoyed for characters and worlds you stopped caring about you'll see what I mean.

Why all the fighting about mshep or femshep? Isn't it enough that we all love Tali? I think that's the point of this forum afterall

I should be enough, Tali is that awesome that she makes everything great ^_^ To ew anything with her and femshep in, is a slap in Tali's face. How dare you.

I'll have to read it after I finish reading all the chapters of Adamo. Its very long, but oh so good.

Its got me thinking. Alot of us play Bioware games for the characters and romances. Do you think it would be possible for them to place even less emphasis on combat and story, and stronger focus on the romance during the narrative?

I just read a chapter of FF, which has the collector base being destroyed, and the huge emotional swings of saving Tali (LI) from falling, then Zaeed sacrificing himself to let Shepard survive to be with Tali. This kind of manipulation of the story, to focus it around the romance, seems extremely powerful.

Quoting myself here since it got lost on last page. What do you guys think?

^^

A stronger emphasis on romance would be great, as long as they don't overdo it.

Argh, if only ME3 focused more on story/romance/choices and everything else took a backseat...what i'd give to play that. Instead, we got an auto-dialogue TPS attempting to bring in the COD crowd. Perhaps i'm being unfair, but it's immensly frustrating all the same.

I think BW underestimates how highly fans hold their romance story arcs. They actually got it fairly right in DA:O then kind of went downhill.

Both DA and ME wouldn't be the same without your LI story arc, it makes the game what it is. If you didn't have them they'd just be another RPG.

Yeah I don't understand why Bioware don't go more strongly with their characters. ME2 worked so well because it was all about the characters, and there were so many.

Just remembered in DAO, if you romance Alistair and don't do the dark ritual, he will not let you sacrifice yourself to kill the arch demon since he loves you. Even if he broke up with you to marry the Queen. I'm sure that didn't go down well with people who romanced him, but cannot deny its a great example of romance emotionally influencing the storytelling.

Good, the more the merrier :)

On a side note, this just occured to me: why are Quarian's visors opaque? Other then to hide what they look like so that Bioware don't have to render their faces, obviously.  =P

I've been trying to find a legitmate reason in the lore as to why their visors are tinted, but have had no luck. Tbh, it doesn't make much sense to me at all. I understand the need for a visor obviously, but a tinted visor? Hmm.

Thoughts?

I think I read somewhere that one of the reasons was to have greater privacy on the crowded ships.

Maybe it is also became a quarian cultural norm to only show your adult face to your closest friends, family and significant other.

You only become Queen if he became King and survived. Basically getting the other Queen exiled and having Morrigan sleep with him so she gets preggy.

Years in the suits might make natural light harmful/ have adverse effects on their skin/eyes?

or
The suit contains their own personal atmosphere that reacts to light giving the black light look.
maybe.

just throwing out some ideas.

Quarians might not be able to see a lot of the wavelengths of light that make up the color of the visor, making it nearly clear to them.

One-way transparency.

Bioware never expected to reveal their faces, so instead of diverting resources from other artists, they decided to make the visor nearly opaque, allowing them to stick a human model head into the mask without creating problems for everyone.

And what everyone else said.

Aw, a butt picture just for me. I feel welcome

I wondered the same thing. It's probably as you've said, that they didn't bother making special Quarian face models when they were just going to stick their heads in helmets anyway. The Quarians probably identify each other by each others voices and the colors of their suits. I wonder if they are allowed to change their designated color theme or if they're stuck with it their whole lives.

Well in Mass Effect 2, Han Gerrels suit was white and grey and Koriss was pink and white. In ME3 Han Gerrels suit was pink and white and Koris's was like purple and black. Unless Bioware just messed it up, then I guess they can change their color theme.

Gerrel was pink and white in ME3? Unless I missed something obvious, I'm certain all four admirals wore black enviro-suits...though I did notice that some sections of Raan's suit were brown.
