At first: I totally agree with you when it comes to the reason for Talis human like appearance. Because of laziness. That fact is hard to not notice if you watch the canon image (fingers! ). Nevertheless I love the outcome.
Second: You think no hair or "alien like" hair would have fit better? I think it was about time to see another species having hair. Humans were the only ones and if you look at the reason we got hair you might come up with the idea that any other race might have developed some as well. And no offense to someones taste, but bald wouldn't be a nice solution I think. We already had a bald woman on board of the Normandy in the second game. One is more than enough.

Now that "Tali" (I put that in quotes because I'll never attach her beautiful name to that image) fanart I was talking about - I bet youve seen it before. She/It has got yellow eyes (Yes, just as evil guys like emperor palpatine or darth maul), she/ it has got a tentacles that spread out of hear forehead upwards and cover half of the skull until below that some cable/hair mixture appears that is bound to weird braid behind the head. I won't post any picture.
Some people seem to admire this. I don't. And I don't understand why.

Here is the problem that i think you have.  You believe that Tali MUST be beautiful, and that she MUST be attractive according to human standards.  And if she is not.....then she isn't Tali to you, nor does she deserve that name.

But what really makes Tali tali....is her personality.  Even if bioware made her look like that pic above, or even worse, say a creature that would look like a fantasy monster (of course Tali can never be a real monster unless her personality changes for the worst, so making her creepy looking doesn't make her a monster), that doesn't mean she isn't Tali and therefore doesn't deserve the name, because her personality would be the same regardless of what she looks like.  She can be not beautiful and still have a beautiful name.

Saying Tali is not Tali because you do not like the picture, would be like me saying that the canon picture for Tali is not Tali because i don't like the "almost human" tali.  That would be stupid, regardless of my opinions on how Tali would turn out.  She would ALWAYS be Tali, no matter how bioware would decide to do her face.

This needs to be explained? It's in the facial feature cues. It's the very first description that comes to mind when I look at it. At best it looks sexually ambiguous.
