So I just beat the EC ending twice. First Control, then Destroy (still hate synthesis).
For the record, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this DLC as a 7.
A few things I have to write.
Very gutwrenching goodbye with Tali as you get her onto the Normandy for evac after the mako almost landed on her. Loved that.
The explanations of the options with the Catalyst were satisfactory.
I saw that Bioware had removed the comment in the datapad after the credits saying that 'the Shepard's story will continue in downloadable content.' Good job Bioware. Now the ending feels less like a corporate end influenced by EA that is trying to milk us for more money.
Still hate that Bioware decided upon using a small subplot of the series (synthetic vs organic) as the big ending plot reveal instead of the Dark Matter idea the other games had built up.
In the very end, there was no LI scene or Tali's house on Rannoch. That is quite disappointing.
In relation to that point, there was no scene or image showing what happened to our key squadmates, our close friends. There were images reserved however for the nonpivotal characters in ME3 such as Jack, Samara, Zaeed, Kasumi, Jacob, and Miranda. There was no personalized image or scene for our actual squadmates such as Tali and Garrus. That is disappointing.
The Catalyst Godchild's logic still makes no sense in regards to the eternally inevitable war of Synthetics vs. Organics. The previous contention with his logic is still valid. The Geth never rebelled against their creators until the Reapers made them rebel. However, Bioware did make it seem as if the Catalyst had witnessed this kind of progression in every cycle and simply took it on faith that it would happen in this cycle as well so there was some kind of flimsy basis (not really) for the Catalyst's argument (again, not really because taking something like that on faith has no predictive capability while the Catalyst could have just waited for the Geth to try and rebel). Also, the Godchild's statement that the Reapers also harvest synthetic life sort of explains why Sovereign began by controlling the geth.
I still hate the Stargazer and his grandkid. They belittle the story and add absolutely nothing. They only enhance the metaphysical and philosophical ending Bioware was going for. Again, I hate that idea. That type of metaphysical end is generic enough that little to no work was allocated to personalizing and fleshing out the hundreds if not thousands of potential endings
I still hate that Bioware went for a more metaphysical and philosophical ending rather than a personal and real ending. In the end, no one cares about the philosophical or metaphysical implications of your decisions. We care about the people close to us and how our actions affect them.
If I am missing anything that would have been present if I had a higher EMS please let me know.
This DLC demonstrates the fact that Bioware can make amazing endings. Absolutely heartwrenching and well crafted endings. I actually noticed the huge differences in artistic quality between the original ending sections, and the EC sections. The EC sections were by far the best. I think Bioware was just rushed by EA. Bioware was rushed to pump out their hit games and that included Mass Effect 3. If Bioware/EA announces a new Mass Effect game within the next two years or so, I think it will support this idea that Bioware is being rushed.
The wound that Bioware inflicted upon us by directly lying to us from the beginning and then treating us with little respect with their claim of 'artistic integrity' has not yet healed for me. They have yet to earn all of my trust back.
But I am content. I still appreciate Bioware for creating Tali and her universe and that can never be tarnished. I loved Bioware for being trustworthy but now I no longer trust them. I appreciate Bioware for listening to our feedback and releasing the Extended Cuts DLC. It has made the games a bit more... worth it. It has also set or reinforced the revolutionary idea that the fans can heavily influence the ending of a game even after release. I thank you for that Bioware. Perhaps, in time, I will be able to play all three games again. Perhaps after I write the end, or rather, culmination, of my story in ME with Tali in my fanfic.
... I just wish that Shepard had said 'I love you' to Tali once. Just once. I know it was implied everywhere but hearing it would have been amazing.
I love you Tali. I loved you Bioware, but I thank you for giving us Tali. You did one hell of a job on this EC DLC. We will take it from here.
-Sorry for not making this Tali centric enough. I just come to this forum before any other one out of habit and my sleep deprived brain needed to write this down as quickly as possible.
