The war doesn't start until after the Cerberus coup on the Citadel.
I believe officially the quarians start attacking the geth before the Reapers even arrive at Earth. It just bogs down after the Reapers arrive and make the offer to the geth.
In all likelyhood, the mission order was restricted simply to limit xbox 360 disc swapping, just in like game 2.
No. Take off your romance-coloured glasses for once, hard as it is.
The
preparations for the war last during Tuchanka and the coup. The war itself lasts a few days, after Cerberus' attempted coup before the Reaper intervenes (against the Catalyst's own philosophy, no less - that flawed AI

)
There are a lot of invisible, unnoted fade-to-black timeskips in the game.
And for the last friggin' time, squadmates in this game don't have any dialog for missions they can't be in "legally" unlike in 2. Plus, both Tuchanka and Rannoch are on disc 2.
So, yeah. Dead wrong. It
would break the plot, end of story. You really can't justify doing Rannoch first, because then both Tuchanka and Palaven burn. There is
no way around this.
Plus, it gives the added benefit of making sure we don't get too much Tali. The last thing I want is her becoming Wesley Snipes 2.0.
