I hate to say this, but the picture of Tali holding Shepard's helmet would've made it in to the game waaay before the picture of him holding her up on Rannoch.

And not because it reveals too much of Tali, either. The post-ending stills were a cheap, but effective, way to create closure for friends and allies, without having to spend time on animation or dialogue. Since they're just art stills, there's no way to change them - and imagine playing through as a blonde shepard with a reddish goatee, only to see THAT picture at the end? :)

Not saying it wouldn't have been awesome if they'd figured out a way to make it so that still worked for any Shep, but...given the direction they seemed to want to go with the game (4 endings, Shep dies for sure in 3 of them, and even the destroy ending could, as the man said, be taken to be the hero's last breath) - the Tali with the helmet seems more likely. Certainly a very poignant image.

attempting to upload photos for the first time, so we'll see how they turn out...

I'm just going to use URLs because I don't think the formal way works with photobucket.

This is an early concept that I drew that had things that you know could pass for ears...  Like they were supposed to.

And this one is sad.  The end.  Make of it what you will.

I would have had some of team dextro and Shep, but Turians are so freaking hard to draw.  Oh well, I'll get the hang of them eventually.

When I sit back and think about all that I've accomplished in the Mass Effect series, I think the biggest achievement I made wasn't stopping cerberus, saving the galaxy from the reapers, or even stopping saren and sovereign.  They matter, of course, but my biggest accomplishment I achieved in the Mass Effect series was binding with Tali.  It took a lot from both Shepard and Tali to make this work, but in the end, they made it work.  And in more ways than one sees in cutscenes.  Through part of Mass Effect 2 and all into Mass Effect 3, I think the reason I kept playing was for Tali.  I did so many things for her, but I was especially happy that I could not only give her Rannoch back, but also bring her people together with the geth so they can both benefit from each other.

But it's kinda funny how in the end, it doesn't matter as much anymore.  The whole time, Tali didn't need Rannoch as a home.  She had Shepard.  Wherever Shepard went, Tali followed.  Building a house on the homeworld, or even taking it back didn't matter as much as being in the trust and protection fo Shepard.  And ultimately, when Shepard went through the beam of hell to save the galaxy, he came back for her.  Now that the reapers are gone, and the galaxy at peace, maybe now the two of them can find peace and quiet in one another.

Reminds me too much of Dragon Age: Origins and how everybody seems to be totally covered with silly-looking blood after a battle.  It does make me wonder though if they're covered in their own blood or the blood of the people who died in the mako?  Idk.  But it is sad to see Tali in such a state.

I think this can be applied on an even more general scale for a lot of people. The story of Mass Effect wasn't really remarkable in itself, especially in the third game, but the characters kept us coming back. Effectively developing unique and interesting characters was the greatest strength of the franchise, IMO.

What? You don't bathe in the blood of your foes after a battle? All bioware companions took that course.

I thought they were covered in dirt. ...Weird looking red dirt. Why would the blood be on the outside of the armour?
... and on top of Tali's head.

I thought it was dirt, too. Occurs to me that BioWare probably wanted them to look 'gritty,' like they're on a battlefield, and couldn't be arsed to make some dirt textures or whatever for the character models, so they just splattered a lot of blood on them.

So they cut corners on the EC and copy and pasted the blood splatter function from DA in. Great. Those textures don't deserve to be all over Tali. Another plot hole/inconsistency has been uncovered!

it's actually a movie cliche, how do you show somebody is badly hurt and and cannot continue? Blood. Buckets of it.

Yeah they have two options:

1) Make a model with a massive wound, which they can have blood pouring from.
2) Throw blood texture over everything.

They went with the cheaper option.

Are you guys complaining about the "LI goodbye" scene?  Seriously?  Because those scenes are awesome, textures be damned!

I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing that little "hand dance" between Shepard and Tali. ^_^

I think it was a combination of blood....it was clear Tali was injured, so it might be some of her own, plus some of Garrus', plus some of whoever was in the Mako, right? Possibly other soldiers, etc. What concerned me as I was playing it was that it might be a suit rupture, and if there was blood, hers or someone else's, and her suit was ruptured....yes, I would've totally called the Normandy, even if the wound was only the size of a papercut.

I am really sorry.  I had this sequence all lined up in my head, but found it too difficult execute, and thus chose to implement the easiest and most emotionally evocotive scene.  The idea was to create an image that would cause the viewer to think how terrible shepard would feel in any of the many ways that he could have lost Tali. The scene was meant to be on Rannoch, in a totally fictional scenario.  Would it make all feel better if I removed the pic all together?

I suppose that I had best get drawing on those other parts before putting this one up, huh?

Thinking back on it, I really wish that BW would've come up with a lot more varied costume designs for the other quarian characters who aren't Tali, like the redesigns this artist came up with for Shala'Raan and Daro'Xen:
