EC was certainly better then what we got originally but still did not do the characters and trilogy justice. I still wanted to see the reapers ended without the BS penalty of losing edi and the geth and the house on rannoch.

I was always mad at star brats logic when I had edi and joker together and peace with the geth and quarians and how that gets tossed out the door.

I did enjoy the addition of the emotional evac dialogue at least.

That's why I think a lot of people use their 'head canon' to have EDI not die - find a technological loop-hole that allows her to survive.

Yeah, starbrat/starkid logic is flawed. The mathematician in me screams about it. A lot.

My headcannon would be that a magical energy wave that can somehow make an active determination of the difference sapient AIs and non-sapient VIs is some dumb BS.

I didn't mind that there were no happy endings available, only that the StarBrat and his logic for the choices were crap. I also don't think that making it absolutely impossible to have a happy ending was a good idea.
EC was a bandage on a broken bone.

I'm always vaguely surprised at how many people got upset by having to sacrifice the geth/EDI. Both had Reaper tech in them, and in the geth's case, they made the conscious decision to upload the Reaper code into their runtime or whatever.

As for EDI, I never particularly liked the character, but I guess I can understand that some people did.

Part of it to me is that it feels like a tacked on penalty to make the other two choices appealing or able to stand up to destroy. synthesis really makes me roll my eyes because it truly does feel like space magic that breaks the rules of the me universe.

Is it sad that the Destroy energy wave is actuallty the most (reletivly speaking) logically sound of the three waves of space magic?

The worst part though is there is a easy fix for having destroy make sense: the energy targets Reaper code and destroys it. Geth and EDI still killed (without any "targets all synthetic life bullcrap") and Shepard only dies in all but the best version due to the Citadel blowing  up. There, problem solved. So, Bioware; where's my paycheck?

Bah part of me wants to write a fanfic, redoing ME3 from a different start, but the rest of me knows I am a rubbish writer.

My rough idea is:
 • Shepard did not turn himself in after Arrival, and is on the run from the Alliance and Batarians.
 • Most of ME2 crew still onboard. Samara and Zaeed left. Thane has gone to hospital. Grunt back on Tuchanka.
 • Romances: Tali-Shepard (obviously), Garrus-Kasumi, Jacob-Miranda, EDI-Joker (eventually).
 • Still somewhat friendly with Cerberus after destroying the base.
 • Story starts Shepard waking up next to Tali, getting omni-tool beep from EDI. TIM is calling. He gives Shepard the heads up that "its time", Earth has gone dark and he needs him to extract the crucible data from Mars.
 • Mars is fighting reapers rather than cerberus.
 • Goto citadel. Present data and are told that Batarians are gone, charges are dropped. Regather alliance support from some new crew, and Ash as alliance liason on the normandy.
 • Palavin, same as before. Garrus was on the normandy so is not a high rank.
 • Tuckanka arc, same as before. Intel about females comes from Liara instead of Mordin. Mordin still dies.
 • Lack of progress makes Udina try to seize power through citadel coup, with cerberus help. Some of C-Sec humans help, along with cerberus agents and soldiers. Shepard stops as before but Anderson dies. Thane dies too same as before. Shepard blames himself. Capture cerberus AI which EDI uses as body later.
 • Tali receives word that the Geth have been taken over by reapers, and war is being fought between her people and them. Peace was been sought before this thanks to her and Legion. Arc continues similar to before, with ultimate choice about to risk giving Geth reaper upgrades to make them unhackable and sentient - or destroy them for safety. Legion sacrifices himself as a conduit to repurpose the reaper code.
 • Have to save Liara from her ship as cerberus are trying to take her shadow broker resources. Shepard begins to focus on taking down cerberus, using what little resources Liara has left.
 • Liara tells of her recent discovering of what cerberus are doing on Sanctuary. Shepard and crew go and shut it down after seeing its horrors. Using intel find out cerberus have infiltrators on crucible to take it if needed, but also triangulate cerberus HQ.
 • Assault on cerberus base. TIM has escaped but has lost most of his resources.
 • Final battle against earth. blah blah blah. Several squadmates die here (annoys me that no one can die)
 • On crucible find TIM making modifications with some escort. He makes a plea with shepard to see things his way - control.
 • Using last of his energy Shepard fights TIMs escort and kills TIM. Shepard collapses on the firing controls. Destroy ending, no starchild, no geth or EDI die.
 • Is found by Tali and crew while close to death. Maybe continue story a bit after that while in hospital.
Yeah thats how I would have rewritten ME3. A less evil cerberus, no rubbish choices at end, squadmates die fairly often.

Apathy, I really like that idea, but with two suggestions. You could have the begining differ if you are paragon or renegade. Paragon Shepards turned themself in, renegade did not. Old crew could still be around, as in the paragon path they got to stay on the Normandy (Since it was clear Anderson was going to be put in command, he could have pulled some strings to keep the non alliance people around.)

"Part of me was from the rogue VI in the Luna Base."
"Wait...  The one with the rocket drones?"
"Yes."
*blows her out the air lock.

Seriously.  It's not as if we needed another tech specialist.  We already had the best.  There was no reason to even have her as a squad mate, and her merits as a charcter are debatable.  Tali should have fried that AI core like you know she wanted to in ME2.

Hmm, ponders which generation of Talimancer I'd be catagorized under....

Well, I don't know about frying the AI Core, but no, EDI does NOT need to be a squadmate or have a "sexy robot lady body" at all... hence why she isn't getting one in the fanfic I'm trying to write, lol. :P

EDIT: And a ToP Tali pic while I'm at it:

Well yeah if it was a game that would be a good option.

Honestly though I play paragade, and I would not have turned myself in. Put myself at the mercy of a board full of people who don't believe in the reapers... after having blown up a star system because of it. That will not go well, and only be counter to my efforts to save the galaxy.

No. Better to spend 6 months trying to secure a Geth-Quarian peace, gathering intel and cooperating with cerberus. Hackett and Anderson are great guys, but two people in the military are not enough to help Shepard.

Same here. I first played the Mass Effect games about two years ago, but didn't start hanging out on the forums untill about 2-3 months before ME3 came out.

I was going to mention this, too. If anyone here plays ME3 on PC, you can add me: PythonC

I only play Silver, though, at least for now.

When the Geth started injecting themselves with "Reaper code", I knew it was a terrible idea.  Shepard didn't really question it like I would have.  Anybody who's played the series since the beginning knows that nothing good ever comes from Reaper tech.  Indoctrination, anyone?

I've been hunting for a competent team to do gold/plat since I'm rarely on at the same time as the other TZF types. Feel free to look me up, tag is Madadh.

The robot body was kind of ridiculous, at least to the degree that they sexed it up. Good humor potential at least.

EDI embodies what I saw as a major part of the theme of ME (until you get to the end and that retarded synthetic/organic crap). She is amazingly useful in ME2 and earns the trust of the crew. She is a living example that the Council's fear of advancement and change is just that, a fear not a fact. Just like Shepard accepts his crew of aliens, he/she accepts EDI too by the end. One more piece showing that the galaxy is better together rather than apart.

Bringing the geth into the fold is just another part of that too. Which is why the destroy ending sticks in my craw. We spent three games dragging the geth up from 'killer robots' to understanding that they have a place in the galaxy the same as everyone else... and then you're supposed to wipe them out?

Just played the EC dlc again yesterday (As always i picked destroy). For the first time i felt i was finished, and shepard could finally settledown with tali.

On another note, has anyone ever thought about shepard learnijg kelish so he can listen to her voice without a.translator? Judging from the untranslated quarian you hear in ME2 humas should be able too.
Beat you to it. That's been my headcanon for ages.
For days i've been thinking about them turning off the translator for their first romantic eavning on rannoch...

DONT JUDGE ME!
In my head, Shepard's been learning Keelish in secret every since he grabbed the Quarian tablets from Hock's vault.
That could be a nice supprise for her during one of their "sleepless nights"
The Captain's Cabin has been lit by old fashioned scented candles. The lights have been dimmed and Shepard lies on the bed, waiting for his girl. The door slides open and Tali walks on in.
"You wanted to see me Shep- Oh."
Shepard beckons her over with one finger and she confidently obliges.
"This must have taken a lot of preparation, Shepard"
Khelish: "You have no idea."
POUNCE!
While the physical rewards... would be well worth it, it also would be almost symbolic. Tali made alot of sacrafices to be with shepard. Learning keelish would be part of living with her on rannoch.

Makes sense if you're living on a planet full of people speaking Khelish. Besides, think of all the time you could spend cuddled up next to Tali just listening to her speak and learning to translate.

Impossible to tell, because every single quarian has weirdly different accents, lol. Tali sounds vaguely Middle-Eastern, Koris, Gerel, and Xen sound British, and some of them sound European. So random.

I've always thought it would sound kind of like arabic, for some reason.
