Well, for asari at least, they have a lot of time on their hands. Learning a language could come in handy.

Didn't samara say she studied other cultures when she knew she had to leave asari space? (referring to knight errants and samurai)

I suppose Asari have the luxery of time on their side, but other races may not be so interested in investing in alien languages. Especially as humanity has thousands of them. Part of me assumes that humanity still speaks many languages (eg Kasumi probably is speaking Japanese), just we all have translators.

Quarian human babies would not be possible without some kind of artificial application involved. Like, some kind of genetic restructure made by salarians or something. Naturally though? No.

That or language has merged into one mixed language that most humans use. Blade runner style, but i doubt it.

Plus its asari nature to understand others.

That seems pretty much impossible. That process would take centuries, and ME isn't set that far in the future.

A single global language would take many centuries to develop on earth. It's more likely that shepard speaks a form of mandarin than anything else.

But asari could mind-rape our languages out of us pretty quickly. And then out breed everyone and become the only species in the galaxy.

And I don't think Shepard and Tali use translators. English is very easy and possibly easier than other galactic languages. Humans can't speak Asari, according to a book.

Eh. I imagine many species cannot speak other species language. Vocal chords will allow for different tones and ranges. From we've heard of Kheelish though it seems easy enough to speak.

However I doubt any of the alien crew are speaking english. Humans are new on the scene, and what is the point of learning dozens of languages when you can just use a translator?

You would still here a delay.

The illusive man spoke fluent asari before he founded cerberus.

I didn't realy clarify. Most Asari is possible. About 10% is not.

They are not. Sorry. I remember last time I brought up a similar question about 1,000 or 500 pages back. They are not because they are separate species and the zygote would never form due to levo and dextro amino acid differences. They are incompatible.

Smells a bit like raging hormones in here, fellas.

I blame Cheese's influence on me! No, I joke. I think a well rounded writer should have practice in any and every subject relating to his/her muse subject. :D No holds barred here.

Wait! English is easy!? It has Latin grammar! The worst part of Latin! English is my first language and it makes no sense!
I'd probably take Khelish over English any day.

Cheese of Borg wrote...

Yes! It is in fact the only alien langudge we hear un translated!
During the first part of the trial in me2, you can hear murmering in
kelish at one point!

Thanks!

Compared to alien languages. And you heard a bunch of khelish mumbling. You have no idead what an idnvidual sounds like speaking it. they could have a completely different word for a plural.

Salarian Biological Engineering

I am sure they would be capable of doing it. They may break a few laws in the process though.

The illusive man spoke fluent asari before he founded cerberus.

Which was due to his exposure to the Reaper artifact that Saren's brother found.

WHOA! Something I didn't know. Most likely was in one of the novels.

How about the argument that species by definition cannot mate outside of their species? Especially one born in an alien evolutionary process - they will have neuralology developed different, organs different and DNA markers that behave completely differently.

Edit: This always bugged me in Star Trek, but then again it does provide good alagory for mixed race people trying to find acceptance (which is what star trek did most the time). Star Trek constantly threw science out the window in favour of story telling.

I originally thought like pretty much everyone else that no Tali and Shepard can't make babies. But after watching Battlestar Galactica (which totally reminds me of the geth/quarian conflict) and seeing Cylons (machines) and humans making legit hybrid babies i'm not so sure anymore... >_>;;

EDIT: Meh only pic I had on hand.

One word.         Mint

Mint has a dextro amino protien in it that gives it flavor.

They still have the same organs. Very similar apppearance and bone structure. And i'm sure the protheans did some studies about this. Maybe when shepard touched the beacon it change somethign in his brain, changing the production of sperm to some degree to allow babies. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

not necessarily... It would require genetic enginnering or biological or whatever you call it. It would be impossible for it to happen naturally.

Oh and penicillin is also dextro (I think)

Um... a scientific theory is much more than the colloqial definition of the word 'theory' but that's a story for another day.
Even Levo based organisms have Dextro amino acids in them. Those two are incompatible. There are biological methods in human bodies that reverse Levo to Dextro and vice versa (I think, unsure if they can be reversed but I know that both exist in the human body). We know that they are incompatible. Plus, two aliens that evolved on two separate worlds light years apart being able to successfully breed? No way.

No. You couldn't. And there is no way for quarians and humans to concieve a child together.

HOWEVER.

Test tube baby is possible, although would be illegal in the ME universe. The technology to do so might also be out of reach due to the laws against genetic engineering. The skills to do so would be exceptionally hard to gather.

HOWEVER.

You're commander freaking shepard, you can shoot, charm, and intimidate your way into getting anything.
