I think it's a sign of constant improvement. Seems like you kick it up a notch with every chapter.

I just played ME1 for the first time the other day and beat it early yesterday. Have to say with how much everyone talks about it I was really expecting more then a shot of Liara's butt.

Surprised it took you this long to play ME1. But yeah, the romance scenes in ME1 imo were pretty tasteful. Don't know what Fox got its panties in a twist about.

well I only have a ps3 cant stand the 360 and my computer meh it sux. forced a playthrough.

Out of curiosity, do you have any plans to upload this story to FF.net? dA is fine and all, but I think you'd find that you get a fair amount more exposure and useful feedback on FF.net.

That said, I enjoyed reading it.

If there's one "good" thing that might have arguably come from BioWare's unsatisfactorily vague endings, it's that a lot of great fan-generated content has come of it.

Then again, if the game had a decent ending, I guess there would probably still be a lot of great fanfiction. So yeah. Tali.

Maybe that was their goal. Have people come up with their own conclusions. It seemed like it worked.

How could their goal have been making a game with so many plotholes that the average human mind would compulsively make crap up to fix it? That is a failing bussiness strategy.

Comparing post-ME2 and post-ME3 fanfic is quite a stark difference.

ME2 fanfic seems to be just filling in the gaps in the story, more fluff and dialogue between squadmates. Same events, just presented differently.

ME3 fanfic seems to rewrite large portions of the source material, or ignore it. Alot of the post-ME3 fanfic is blatent fanservice, trying to be as positive as possible to cope with the terrible ending we got.

I never said it was a good idea. But if their goal was to have people come up with their own conclusions then they succeeded. But of course at the cost of pretty much pissing off their entire fanbase.

I wish I could travel back in time, and be the little voice in Mac Walters' ear that says "Nooo! Don't follow Casey Hudson, he'll ruin ME3 with his 3-choice endings. Do not do them - make him do proper endings~!"

So after a bit of a break, I decided to continue on with my renegade playthrough (and taking Tali with me on every mission, of course!) I may have mentioned this before, but seeing all of the dialogue that i've missed from previous runthroughs is great - refreshing, even. One thing that struck me is that Tali REALLY doesn't like seeing people suffer, and it's apparent when watching her reaction to some of Sheps decisions. One such instance that stood out particularly to me (partly because it was rather unexpected) was with the dying salarian on Thane's recruitment mission. I had never seen what happens if you ignore the interrupt, so this was all new ground to me:

Tali - Shepard, he needs medical attention!
Salarian - ...I can't feel my legs.... *gasps* ...I...I can't breathe....please *gasps* help...  (Paragon interrupt appears, obviously ignored)
Shepard - [gets to his feet] We've got to keep moving.
Salarian - *gasps* ...please... *gasps* there's more of us...upstairs...please *gasps* help them *chokes*
Tali - Shepard! We can't just leave him here! He's going to die without help!
Shepard - We didn't see him. Now let's get going.
[Salarian dies]

Yeah...it was pretty heartless moment from Shepard. But it was really moving to see how distressed Tali became over the suffering of the salarian worker. I can't wait until I get to her loyalty mission.

Oh, and there's also Samara's recruitment mission, with Niftu "Biotic God" Cal, which was quite amusing:

Niftu - I shall toss Wasea around like a rag doll!
Tali - Shepard, he can barely walk, much less fight!
Niftu - Bah! I will tear her apart! My biotics are unstoppable!
Shepard - Charge!
Niftu - ....an ill wind blows upon Wasea, captain of the Eclipse sisters...after me! [waddles through the door]
Tali - [wrings her hands anxiously] We should have stopped him, Shepard...

I love it when she wrings her hands, it's too adorable =]

I'll take that a step further, and say that I wish I could travel back in time and tell BioWare's owners/founders not to sell the company to EA.

I'm of the mind that BioWare need to take some responsibility for the way ME3 turned out. EA has had a bad hand in it, what with the reduced production time limit, but Casey Hudson claiming "Artistic Integrity" for a 3-choice ending?! That's all on him.

Also, I've played Deus Ex: Human Revolution and didn't care so much about the 3-choice ending for that game because I enjoyed the journey (and knew it was a prequel), but I expected much more from the final chapter in my Shepard's saga - little purple Quarian babies, mostly.
