I hadn't noticed. As for first-person perspective, I think it can be very effective, but I can't imagine it working in a fanfic.

Yea not really sure. There were several stories I had in line to read but they went missing all of a sudden and all on the same day.
There are a few 1st person stories that I have tried to wanted to read because the plot sounded pretty good, then when I open the story its all "I turned the light, I wiped my ass, I kissed a baby." Almost so many I's that it makes me me feel ill.

Yay now i get to take trash to the landfill. Hooray for living in the middle of ****ing nowhere.

Yeah this is part of the reason I don't start fanfics. I have a plot lined out that would take 30+ chapters, but knowing my attention span I would burn out after 5.

Ya, this is still my own biggest concern... but I remain resolute that I will finish my fanfic, even if it takes 2-3 weeks to get out a new chapter.

Just got round to reading your fic, Werdna.

It's strange to be reading about the decendents of Shepard and his squad...but I'm liking this a lot! I'm really warming to the characters you've created, especially Ria (who is the perfect balance between Shepard and Tali, so kudos to you for managing that feat) and also Tarran (who is so similar to Garrus from his cockyness to his snarky comments, brought a genuine smile to my face). I also love how you have the Normandy SR2 with Shepard, Tali and all of the old crew running a parallel course to the new generation aboard the smaller, sleeker Invisible with Ria in command. I look forward to seeing how this develops.

My only critisism is that there are quite a few grammatical/spelling errors, but those can be overlooked (though "Shepard felt a child run up his spine" had me chuckling a little =P) I look forward to seeing more from you

I don't mean to argue, but third-person narrative is perfectly capable of telling a story from a character's perspective. I do see what you mean, though.

I have seen a few good 1st person stories but the thing I cant stand is that if I do a quick scan of the first page and the I's are the most prominent things on the page. If that even sounds right.

That's one problem with first person. But I can't count the number of times I've had to open a thesaurus because I've used the same word too many times in the same paragraph. It's just an obstacle to work around, and some do it successfully. I doubt first person would ever become my preference, but I'll experiment with it one of these days. Probably not in my current story, though. It's hard enough just dealing with limited vs. omniscient and whose perspective to write from when in limited, etc.

I never want to write any first-person perspective pieces. I have some bad history with "summer reading" during my high school years. All the books that were required were total crap.

Yeah, I remember reading that post and I wondered if that was a common occurrence. It is a bit of a strange title. But two hours of contemplation didn't come up with a better one. Ah well.
