I would certainly have liked to have Tali earlier in the game, but what we got was dense with quality once she comes in. Everything from the solid LI-specific Dreadnought/Rannoch interaction to the uniquely animated "loving" look Shep gives her picture in his cabin (skiiping the debate over the pic itself). Even her entertaining bar/"induction port" scene changes nicely to reference an LI as "her boyfriend".

Still a shame that I can't have her interact with Wrex or Jack on Grissom, but oh well.

I agree. I'm now planning on holding off getting Javik until later and doing Leviathan alter so I can have her for both, but it's too bad we couldn't have gotten her right after the first Citadel trip; before we went to Palaven.

Another thing you can do is hold off on the two parts of the Tuchunka Bomb Mission (while the second part is on a timer, the first part is not, so you can safly save both missions to do with Tali) ... though this does mean you will have to do the Rachni Mission, so no "Spiders Spiders Spiders SPIDERS!"

Yeah, just watch out for that second timed mission. I decided to commit to the unknown (deliberately not looking it up) and just give it a try let that mission go after doing the first. See if it would really blow up sooner rather than later. Sure enough, it wasn't long before an otherwise Paragon Shep is apologizing to Hackett for letting half the Krogan population get nuked, including someone familiar. D'oh.  And Wrex sticks by his commitment but thinks little of you after it...understandably.

Okay, this has bugged me for a while now.

When I played the DLC, I brought Tali and Garrus on this mission, except for me that glance scene was with Garrus and not Tali.

Same thing with suicide mission back in ME2. Sometimes Shep doesn't save Tali when she is falling. Instead it puts Garrus in that spot and really annoys me.

My first ME2 playthrough Shep saved Tali there, so now its sorta my canon story.

So my question is... Does the game do this randomly? Or does it depend on who you pick first for your squad?

For the suicide mission the squaddies portrait who is on the right is the one Shepard will catch when they are falling. Most of the cutscenes in ME2 were pretty much like that. Depends on what side their portrait is on.

As for ME3 Garrus overwrites pretty much everyone in everything from what i've noticed lol. I think it's more random in ME3 or based on which combo of squadmates you bring. I'm not entirely certain on that just based on what i've experienced myself.

The Mass Effect community in general is prolific when it comes to fan-generated content. Particularly since so many of us are dissatisfied with the direction BioWare took, but still like their game universe and the characters that fill it.

Same here. Although I also just love the Mass Effect universe. I haven't been this interested in a sci-fi franchise since Star Wars when I was a kid, and I personally think Mass Effect has so much more potential than Star Wars ever had.

As for my reaction to the Garrus/Tali romance: I really didn't have one. It didn't strike me as wrong, necessarily, but it didn't strike me as right, either. I hadn't really noticed any chemistry between them that made me think they could become an item. Just felt like something thrown in for the sake of it, not because it was right for the characters.
