One question I have though: just how much of the content from ME1 are you planning to put in (side-missions, etc.)? Or will it be just all main story stuff, with possible squadmate missions (Wrex's family armor, Tali's pilgrimage, Garrus' coldcase) thrown in?
I don't plan on doing Pinnacle Station or the more mundane side quests, just things that will have importance later on (hostage situations, Conrad Verner, that kind of thing). Too much sidequesting and the story loses the urgency of stopping Saren, but stops along the way are good.
While I'm mostly going with the main plot, I plan on a few things changing here and there. I'm also trying to make the squad more relateable like it was in ME 2, and to do that I'm planning on giving each squadmate their due with their missions (even Kaidan and Ashley). The personalities of Kaidan and Ashley I find are a little harder to write (probably given that they were the least present of the characters in all three games), but I have some ideas to make them more interesting.
Personally I felt that the introduction was a little rushed (maybe due to me always wanting to get though Eden Prime quickly in the game), but am quite happy with the second chapter so far. Beta reader is taking a while, lol.
Good call. The last thing I want to see in this kind of fanfic is it being bogged down by sidequest filler. The other sidequests you mentioned... well we'll see how that goes.
Looking forward to seeing what kind of personal missions you give to Kaidan and Ash. As for their personalities, Ash is, IMO, easier to do than Kaidan.
