Yeah, it's sad and makes absolute psychological sense. Unfortunately, the "I'm not worthy" vibes also disqualify her as a romance for me. I still like her as a character, though.

So do you think a nonromancing Shepard would do better at bolstering her self-confidence?

A little bit. Mostly what I think she needs is to grow up a bit. She reminds me of myself in my teens.

What a great way to help her think more of herself Posted Image

I'd prefer working on her self esteem *after* the crush that makes her so terribly awkward is mostly out of the way (Because she's bound to be embarassed about talking of specifics). Y'know, maybe pointing out that she's saved the Hero of the Galaxy's ass, twice if she helps you into the ship at the end of ME2. And also that there's a reason Garrus shuts up when she mentions her shotgun. If Tali realized half of what she's capable of she might come off as arrogant (Not that she ever would, Taliness FTW).

Hmm, you just need a little luck... and mass effect 3!

Yeah, but if we're depending on the romance to "fix" things, that presents its own problems. I wouldn't mind a romance later in life when they meet as equals, but they aren't there now. And I don't want to be needed.Wanted, but not needed.

Yes, the Miranda thread is much worse than the Tali thread these days, at least from the little I've stuck my head in here. And I'm the OP of the Miranda thread and don't romance Tali.

Agreed, I must have missed the Tali creepiness on here.

Some posters on the Miranda thread however *shudders*

Yeah, I'd like to see some recent "creepy" example posts from the haters. Simple fanboying of the character doesn't count, because that's one of the normal modus operandi of fan threads. Also, most of those posts are slightly over the top because they are meant to be humorous. It's only that the chronically humorless can't tell that subtle difference.

I don't understand why a few people are giving JakeMacDon **** about being a troll....I'm totally glad he's bringing discussion to a thread that's been getting very stale lately...

Mostly because he is generalizing Tali fans as being "creepy". Without providing any actual examples, as far as I've seen.

It's.part of her appeal for sure, but I'm hoping they ease up on the massive woobieness. Seriously, any more misery added to what she had to endure over the course of ME2 and you may as well let Joss Whedon write, and it'll just feed the creepy hurt/comfort dynamic.

well, I've only gone back by a page or two so I haven't seen the full discussion but from what I've read, he seems to only be referring to the worst examples of the fanbase and while I don't necessarily think that's a good sample size to judge a fanbase by, everything he says isn't troll worthy...

Well, how about he provide any actual examples? It's easy to gin up some faceless "bad fans", but providing actual examples is putting such claims under the light of the sun.

Probably about as often as turians and quarians hook up, which is to say more often than quarians with anyone else. Maybe even moreso, because while turians are more biologically compatible with quarians, asari would be more attractive. So I'd say that many quarians would be extremely tempted by having someone who could sleep with them with lower risks of physical contamination; hell, the mindsex might actually work through the suit. If that was the case, one could say that asari would be the perfect partners for quarians (at least, the ones into women).

Asari seem to be the perfect partners for just about everyone.  It has struck me as odd on ocassion that they would have evolved naturally that way - whence did their form of parthenogenesis come?  Species on Earth that follow that model tend to have ways around it if necessary, such as some species of all-girl fish becoming boys when necessary.  Otherwise the species can be in a precarious situation, like these gals

Were there male asari at some point?  It would seem to be the case.  Who knows, maybe there are, even today and that's a more closely guarded secret as to what a female turian looks like.  :bandit:

A 'quarian' asari, loyal to the fleet, could do wonders for their supply problems.  There's a fanfic for someone.

Posting from my phone, so no.quoting sadly. All at Jake though.

I'm not sure who was in charge at Haestrom, as far as I can tell, Tali was in charge of the science team, Jayne had the marines, and the idea was in and out, fast and quiet. Then their equipment all fried in the radiation, and the rest is history.

True that, but regardless, Haestrom is in geth space.  Even without the sunlight, we are looking at some serious trouble if they get spotted. According to the ingame descriptor of Haestrom, the geth have compensated for the hyperactive sun and are in the process of building space stations around it.  The sun doesn't bother them.  Was this info lost on the quarians? If it was, then the massacre makes sense, if a massacre ever can, otherwise, they were just asking for trouble, and the thing was doomed from the start.  It still strikes me as suspicious, overall.

As for her failure of leadership, I think that was the point, and is, to my mind, yet another example of her being led around. I suspect Rael wanted her to succeed him, but I can't see her accepting a place on the board other than as part of a plot to invoke their reserve powers so she can GTFO of politics. She's a girl of many talents, but leadership isn't one of them.

Also likely a source of tension between father and daughter.

With what you said about her dependency on Shepard for rescue and to complete her pilgrimage, again, I think its the point. The wunderkind, no matter how capable, simply doesn't have the skills or the experience of the hero, and will, thanks to harsh reality, be dependant.

True, but the girl is smart, she will learn.  Unfortunately, it's getting people killed.

She's stronger and more capable than she gives herself credit for, but she isn't the heroine that she and the fleet demands she is.

Famous parents, kids that just wanna be kids and have their own dreams.  Sux.

Thanks.  T'was always my intention.  My bad for not reading the OP with more care.  I've said all I'm going to on that subject, but I can't - nor will I try to - stop others.

I did find Tali, not weak exactly, but overly dependent on Shep. Shepard saves her four times if you complete her LM the best way, three of them in one game. And I'm really uncomfortable with her attitude toward a romanced Shep. Her first concern is that the relationship might distract or inconvenience him, and she always seems so grateful he deigns to return her feelings. It's realistic considering her culture, but I want to stter her away from the relationship. Been there, done that. Very painful.

That was one of the things I'd just sit back from the computer going, "Geez - come on!  She's grateful?  Okay, flattered, maybe - I am Shep of the Mightiest of Mojos, after all, but grateful? Ewww."

I don't want to be doe-eyed adored, I want a partner in life. I want an equal, not a follower with benefits.  Some may be cool with that - fine and dandy - but that edges too far into uncomfortably creepy for me.  I'd be forever questioning motives.

You need to read what I actually said a bit more carefully.  I've done nothing of the kind.  You want examples, go to any thread on Tali and you'll find a least one or two a page.  I didn't just pull this out of the air.  A precedent has been set, and anyone who denies it exists is full of crap.  I never said "a majority" and you can't find an instance of where I did.

Before you start slamming me - or misrepresenting what I actually said, get your facts straight.

Tali haters gonna hate, but Tali apologists like to cheat.

Nice try, ain't gonna fly.

I agree, I always romance tali on my playtroughs but that part when she says thank you bothers me, I think she means grateful that shep likes her enough to forget about the suit making contact really difficult, but it still sounds odd

I always just took the "thank you" that she is grateful that shepard see's past the obvious and is willing to try to make a relationship work. Keep in mind she's a Quarian not a human. I would think she would still be very nervous trying to "bond" with a human. As I would be nervous as well. Or she thought thats what a human would say.
