I see your point about the content of such fics. I've seen ones about disciplining her like a pet. Poor Tali.

Out of all the characters, I think Tali has definitely developed a lot since ME1. In ME2 she was given a lot of responsibility taking charge of units on Freedom's Progress and Haestrom - and despite the Shadow Broker's dig at her for being a terrible leader, I think she actually dealt with the situation admirably. Everyone expected her to fall apart like a little kid, but she's grown up. She's had military training and she's worked with Shepard and co.

And, again, all I can say is how much I hate the fact that she came into ME3 so late in the game. Even if Shepard is a friend to her and not romancing her, you get the sense that she has developed a lot more independence from ME2. She won't necessarily go to cry on Shep's shoulder. I think that's nice to see. She's been on a pretty incredible journey to adulthood. I love her as a character. Wish we could've had more.

And Kusumi/Tali/Shepard?  My mind has just been blown...

Everything she learnt about being a leader, I think she got that from her experiences with Shepard and thew crew in ME1, which may or may not be a bad thing dependign how many people Shepard kills off lol.

She goes from Naive "Teen Student" to an mature adult and leader to her people. We get to witness her turn from a girl into a young woman, and how she turned out will always be down to Shepard either as a friend or a lover.

I mean, Kal'Reegar holds her in high regard as both a leader and a friend, and he likes to be open and honest about the Quarian leadership so I guess that says alot coming from an experience vet marine.

It's kind of like how the Garrus/Tali thing came out of the blue, there was practically no build-up and then suddenly they're flirting. Reegar shows Tali an ounce of respect and suddenly everyone thinks he's in love with her.

It was clear Kal had somewhat of a crush atleast on Tali, and Tali also seemed to respond in kind. I don't doubt that if Tali never joined you in ME2, she and Kal would of become an item.

Just depends how much you pay attention to them two when they converse and talk about each other. Talis tone, body language and choice of words is different when shes talking to or about Kal then any other non-shepard person. IMO anyway, I have a habit of analysing between then lines and seeing what others miss.

This. The fact that Reegar was willing to fight to the death to protect Tali on Haestrom. Also during the trial. Reegar keeps calling her 'ma'am' and when Tali tells him to call her by her name, he is bashful in his response: 'I'll have to get used to that, ma'am'.

We see what we want to see and we ignore what we want to ignore. Remember, this is a role-playing game. If you saw nothing between Reegar and Tali, then that's totally what happened in your game.

With Garrus, I was a little stunned too at first. But the more I thought about it, the more it made perfect sense. Their sarcastic elevator conversations in ME1 were very entertaining and amusing. Tali treats Garrus like a loveable rogue and tries to soften him. The conversation you overhear when you visit Tali in Engineering in ME3 about keeping everything at a distance vs. up close and personal - a double entendre on their combat styles - pretty much sums up their relationship perfectly. They may appear to be total opposites on the surface, but really they complete each other - each makes up for what the other lacks.

Kasumi and Tali to me are opposit sides of the same coin lol. They are so alike and so different at the same time, I could imagine Kasumi wanting to pounce and unwrap Talis suit as if it contained a priceless treasure lol.

Body language? Seriously? I feel like you have to be reading *too* far into things to interpret canned game engine animations as flirtatious cues or whatever. Tali's hand wringing is basically as subtle as it gets.

As for Kal's willingness to fight to the death defending her on Haelstrom, that's a pretty generally quarian trait. The entire quarian people are basically like one big family by necessity. His loyalty was admirable, but it seemed like just that: loyalty.

His 'bashfulness' when Tali told him to stop calling her 'ma'am' - I just perceived that as him being a little uncomfortable with that lack of formality - he's a career soldier, and Tali's request there was pretty human, probably picked up while serving on the Normandy.

All that being said, as someone else pointed out, ME is a role-playing game, so I guess interpreting things in our own unique ways is part of the fun.

I'm sorry to hear that Terror, had similar issues in my family, it touches everyone unfortunately. But here's a Femshep/Tali to cheer you up!
