Well, BioWare has said that the quarians were intended as the Mass Effect lore equivalent of elves...

That's news to my ears. When did they say that? o.o

I don't remember where I read that, but I believe one of the writers analogized every Mass Effect species to classic fantasy lore - e.g., krogan to orcs, quarians to elves, etc.

Krogan as orcs, sure I can see that. But I thought asari were the space elves.

I'd have an easier time believing that Quarians are elves. Elves don't have tentacle heads =P

I'm not actually sure what an Asari would be...uhm, they evolved from the oceans, right? So they could be mermaids? o.o

I dunno, super "magical" powers, live for a thousand years, superior to everyone else. That sounds like a Tolkien class elf to me.

Your choices matter!

:lol:

Not the sort of war asset closure I was looking for, lol.

One thing I really wanted to see on Priority: Earth was the Geth and Quarians working together. How awesome would it be if we were to see a Geth Prime with a Spitfire covering a squad of Quarian Marines, or watch a Geth Trooper get it's arm blown off and have a Quarian make a quick field repair on it? It had so much potential! At the very least, we should have been able to see the Geth Prime with Tali at the FOB if you made peace.

Image IPB

But no! You can only see that Geth Prime at the FOB if you betray the Quarians (which, I might add, should never happen in ANYONE's playthrough). Is anyone else bothered by the fact that the Geth are practically non-existant if you made peace?

Completely agree. But there is a lot of wasted potential in the game. In fact I think the desteoy ending would have had a better emotional impact had they had Geth and Quarians fighting side by side and then when the crucible goes off and the Geth collapse we see Quarian soldiers run to the Geth to try to their aid.

Also I agree no one should betray the Quarians because IMO you should also kill off all Asari, Salarians, and Turians as those were the races on the Council that turned their backs on the Quarians and lead to most of this mess. But what can I say I am bias when it comes to Quarians.

Also, if you go all silmarillion up in this the elves in middle earth were actually cast out of the undying lands for murdering their cousins in the first Kinslaying. Kinda breaks down when elves live forever and get to go back to valimar after they tire of the mortal realm.

Also,
volus = dwarves
krogan = uruk/trolls
batarians = orcs/easterlings?
asari = also elves, but super ****ty elves. Like if the vanyar decided to have decade long orgies under the trees of the valar. And were all lesbians.
quarians = noldor elves
geth = teleri elves
humans = humans
turians = numenorians
pyjaks = goblins
varren = wargs
sovereign = saruman
harbinger = witch-king
godkid = sauron
ultramega godteen = melkor himself.

Pretty much every race screws over Shepard at one point or another, with the possible exception of the Krogan depending upon who is leading them (Wrex or Wreav).  But Bioware really tried their darnest to make everyone hate the Quarians in ME3.  <_<

The main problem with the Rannoch plotline is that half the missions were written by one writer, while the other half was written by another writer.  The Geth Dreadnaught Mission and the Final Rannoch mission were written by Tali's wrtier, more or less balanced, putting both the Geth and the Quarians in mixed light. The issue is the Geth Consensus Mission was written by Legion's writer, and was hugely pro-Geth.

Well, they failed, cuz my first playthrough was a default, and I didn't have the points to make peace, and I shot Legion in the face three times.  No regrets.

Tali deserves a home yo.

I made peace between the geth and quarians, as the entire thing was one of the earlier attemps made by sovereign to gain access to the citadel by destabilizing the galaxy.

I dunno, the Quarians were already pretty committed to the invasion of Rannoch before the Reapers showed up. And if any race was well-equipped to survive the Reapers if the rest of the races failed to stop them, it's the Quarians.

'Oh, hey, a bunch of killer sentient robots are roaming around destroying your planets? Well, we'll just get back on our massive flotilla that's spent the past 300 years evading killer sentient robots. Later, ****es!'

I mean, they could have just broken out the Battlestar Galactica defense, found the most remote mass effect relay, jumped it, blown it up to prevent pursuit and actually stood a pretty solid chance at just evading the Reapers alltogether-I mean, the galaxy is a pretty big place, it's a pretty plausible scenario.

That said, I'm kinda disappointed how they handled bringing the Quarians into the group. I'd have liked to see more resistance-one faction (IE, Tali and friends) advocating helping everybody else, and another advocating the aforementioned GTFO strategy. They'd have been the last race contacted, right before the asssault on earth, jumping in right at the last second with...well, everybody.

There are two major changes I would have made (aside from removing the cheesy pro-Geth moments):
1.  Have Tali in the game earlier, of course! :wub:
2.  Allow an outcome where the Geth are controlled by Shepard or the Quarians.  Very ruthless I know, but it's what was hinted at in ME2 and would have been an ideal Renegade path for gaining both races without actually brokering peace.

IMO, that's what it should have come down to - brokering peace, enslaving the Geth, or being forced to choose between the two.

It had never even occurred to me that controlling the geth was still feasible, and I can see its implementation fitting well in the story with a few changes here and there.  To be sure, I would still go for peace, but it would have been nice for controlling the geth to be an option as well.

Tali coming into the game earlier is always a plus.Image IPB
