It's too bad because I find Tali a lot more useful than Miranda. Her drone is always useful, especially on higher difficulties, and Miranda's damage out-put is overrated.

The only thing useful about Miranda are her squad buffs. Nothing else.

Pretty much.

And I really hope BW isn't gauging "popularity" based on usage in any meaningful way. Giving someone a squad wide buff and then being surprised when they're in a list of the most used characters is just.. derp.

@ Vilio
That's not really a meaningful measure. What do Garrus and Miranda have in common after all?

...that is a true fact.

But Tali knows to aim for the optics, this is what Shepard needs on their squad.

In terms of abilities, I would say Thane and Miranda are the best. I must admit, that I am not very good at using Tali when I am playing insanity difficulties unless I am up against geth. Which isn't that often in ME2. Mordin is the Horizon buster on insanity though!

Close. Both can crack all three protection types; Miranda has warp and overload, Garrus has overload, concussion shot and his ap ammo power. Throw in Miranda's passive, and of course those two are going to heavily used.

It's all about Kasumi and Samara, Kasumi and Zaeed, Kasumi and Garrus, Kasumi and Tali, or Kasumi and Legion.

I understand if it's very optional whether to take them along or not, but if you've completed all of their content to their satisfaction and made the right decisions (potentially sacrifices), I don't see why you couldn't keep your two best squaddies with you long-term. Seems Liara and Garrus are free for every damn part of the game so far, I have no idea why Tali wouldn't be, particularly if she's Exiled. Any returning romance should have the option to be permanent, if you meet the criteria.

It wouldn't make sense to not include Tali as a permanent member of the squad considering that even her popularity surpasses that of Garrus a bit.

I don't think so. Garrus and Miranda are the most used squadmates in ME2, not Tali.

what does that have to do with popularity?

I fail to see why Miranda is one the most used squadmates. I didn't know that a 7.5% increase in weapon damage was really that useful.

it's actually 15% is you max it out and pick Cerberus Leader

plus her abilities strip defenses which is very useful at higher difficulties and I guess another point for her would be she has a Husk Killer move: Slam...

she's great and all but people make her seem like she's Chuck Norris

I usually bring Team Dextro on my canon Sheps and either Samara and Tali or Kasumi and Tali on other files...also Grunt/Jacob and Tali on classes that don't have ammo powers

Other squadmates are able to use warp and overload, and pull works just as well as slam to kill husks and if you can't use pull b/c your character class doesn't have it then you can always use advanced training to learn it.

Tali's drone is better than Miranda's passive. It distracts enemies which stops them from shooting at you. That allows you to freely dish out damage and at the end of the day Shepard is doing most of the damage.

This. I actually have to do LotSB before I attack the Derelict Reaper b/c this time I decided to add points to Tali's AI Hacking, so now If I wanna get redo her skills, I have to do the LotSB before the SM to gain access to the squad Tactical Shift. I was hoping to do the LotSB after the SM for the first time. Not this time.

Don't tell that to the "Mirimancers". The other day they were agreeing with each other on the many ways that Miranda was a more powerful biotic than Jack.

Don't know what I'd do without combat drones. It was fun enough using two with my canon Shepgineer and Tali, only found out later that Legion had a third. Good times.

Edit: The whole spiel about Miranda being a better biotic than Jack is simply wishful thinking. Jack is only one of two characters that can, not only hold the biotic bubble till the end of the Long Walk, but can also launch it at the Collectors too. Miranda can't do that. She just collpases to the ground, allowing the seeker swarms to carry away one of your squadmates.
Tali's combat drone is a better squadmate than Miranda.:P

The thing is, Miranda's own damage output is pretty sub-par. Her passive is intended to make up for that, however on higher difficulties it doesn't really matter either way. Enemy defenses won't go down that quickly and her health boost won't save anyone.

However Tali's drone getting an enemy or even several enemies to stop shooting, if only for a few seconds, is more useful. It saves you and your squad for damage and as I said it lets you unleash hell. It's great to give you a chance to use one of the slower heavy weapons. It's also great for escaping from an enemy who has managed to get close to you.

In my experience Tali really only shines on the the higher difficulties.

That just shows you that Tali's combat drone is a better squadmate than Miranda.

And even I don't see Miranda being better than Jack at biotics...
Oh and on the subject of Combat Drones, I agree...I love using them on rocket troopers and watching them shot it at close range and hurt (and even kill) themselves in the process.

Ever tried an Engineer on insanity with Legion and Tali? Having 3 drones would be interesting on that difficulty.

I'm doing that right now. When fighting geth i can Ai hack 2 of them and pop out three drones and just stand there shooting. I also have dominate as my bonus so I can "hack" mercs and collectors too.

Tali and Legion are definitely some of the most useful squadmates on insanity mode.

Dominate isn't as useful as AI Hacking, if only for the fact that when you use Dominate on an organic mook they drop to the ground and slowly stand up before attacking their own guys and that's a waste of a few good seconds. Whereas, w/ AI Hacking, it's instant.

I'm inclined to agree here, was actually going to bring up the drone drawing enemy fire myself, but people beat me to it. It's amazing the lengths that a mob will go to in order to get at a combat drone, even while taking a hail of gunfire to the face.
