It is a cheap plastic imitation with no actual blade strapped to her boot.

I would probably go for "ceremonial dagger that was gifted to her at some point." It could very well be a weapon, though. However, I highly doubt we will ever see it in action regardless of its possible uses.

In general, Tali is the most loved character in the Mass Effect Universe, many people like Miranda and Jack as well, but the main characters are Tali and Ashley, in that order.

Thought Quarians were the only other "mammalian" race in the galaxy other then humans (might be remembering wrong). If so i'd want more feline then primate, given her legs. Kinda like Juhani from KotR or the Kerrans from EQ. So fangs and various cat fur patterns would work and still allow the quarians to not be space elves.

I guess batarians can be considered mammals, since they have a slight bit of fur all over their bodies (according to the books)....time will tell if their women have breasts (hopefully not)...

and yes, I hope that quarians aren't essentially primates....

When I hear "Fangs", I think more of pronounced canines, like those of a cat or... Canine =P

EDIT: When I hear "fangs" in reference to Tali, that is. I think she'd look nice with pronounced canines and otherwise small, sharp teeth.
