You know, I do have to appreciate the fact that Tali is essentially a Quarian prodigy, yet it is never rubbed in our face. In fact most mention of her genius comes from outer sources such as journal entries.

In fact considering all of her accomplishments and abilities Tali is pretty humble about it.

I think it has something to do with her being raised on the migrant Fleet. Quarians don't seem the type to brag about their abilities and whatnot, since it seems that they more or less focus on working together than bragging.

Edit: Top pic :D

I like this pic.

Or in the case of new alien LIs:

Shepard: Ah, this must be how they greet new people in their culture.
Said Alien: Yeeeah, that's not what you think it is.

I tolerate Tali being a prodigy. The truth is I much prefer characters who more normal. Humble beginnings and great skills that are the result of dedication and effort, not born gifts.

Hey now mate ease up. Saphra was not trolling, she was just stating an opinion.

I swear everyone seems so eager to jump at the slightest disagreement.

Oh dear me. I seem to have been under the impression that Tali was given the best Quarian training, and excelled at it, with much fine-honing and effort, while never mentioning her realized potential and being exceptionally humble at being one of the greatest techs in the universe. You must have dismissed these claims.

Obviously she just started turning heaps of scrap into dreadnoughts at the age of 7 with effortless ease, and struts around the Normandy turning cutlery into assault rifles and rubbing it in everybody's faces.

imbrace these differences and contemplate on their mysteries for their answers are steps towards inTaliment.

What IS normal anymore? Look at all the issues encountered in not just tali's but in all the loyalty missions. Arresting your own father, reuniting with your disconnected son, or going back to a bad place. that is what normal really is. Its gritty and dodgy and it hurts. And its normal.
Besides, tali doesnt seem like the kind of character to slack off and cut corners, she shouldnt be if shes dealing with the normandy's engine.

on a sidenote, the whole dedication and effort thing is sorta why i chose a colonist solesurvivor for my canonshep. Just felt like he's proved himself.

You sure? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

I do admit, my response was probably a little harsh. I very rarely respond, but lately the constant trolling over Tali and quarians has been getting on my nerves. Probably butthurt over her being confirmed as permanent SM. Still, everyone is entitled to blow off some steam once in a while.

Yes I am sure, have you not seen the rest of her posts in this thread? Saphra has strong opinions sure, but they are reasonable. Saphra didn't say that Tali was bad, but how she didn't like how Tali was a prodigy. She prefers the humble origins type of character. In fact just yesterday Saphra was talking about how Tali made her blush.

Tali fans already have a bad enough reputation for lashing out at people for the slighest negative word towards Tali, lets not alienate those who actually want to discuss Tali with civility eh?

Oooh, good, your pic wasn't showing up to me earlier. Yeah, that's an awesome pic. Great job on Tali in general, and the mouthpiece light looks awesome.

And I see part of a third toe and a knife-strap! Image IPB Cute/Accurate/Awesomely done Tali pics FTW!

Like I said, it is a preference on my part. I just like it better when characters are average (normal, not exceptional) people who become masters of their skills/trade due to the time and effort they invested in it. Rather than someone who masters things easily because they were born extremely gifted, or the child of a god, or have super powers, ect...

I don't recall Tali being a "prodigy" in ME1 but she was the daughter of an Admiral, which removes her a bit from being an "average" quarian. In ME1 only Shepard (depending on background) and Kaidan have humble backstories where they weren't connected to any historical figures or exceptional leaders/heroes/whatever.

Garrus' father was a top C-Sec agent, and Ash's grandfather was a General.

From what I've seen, C-sec is pretty much like any other police service, not exactly special... Certainly not enough to warrant him being a historical figure, exceptional leader, hero, etc... Hell we don't even know his name, he's some schmuck.

And Ashley's historical roots are not really common knowledge, and from the Alliance point of view, it's more reason to keep her down than put her on a pedastool(Thus making her work hard, rather than getting a helping hand or starting off as neutral).

Note that the only one who knows Tali is an Admiral's daughter, outside of the non-communicative fleet, is Shepard & whoever accompanies you to the trial, presumedly. If we're going by common knowledge, Tali's pretty much normal as it is.
