Especially in regards to Tali and Garrus.

The key question is was it especially OR  only. We've yet to see, ME3 will be decide it. It better be the former.

But what can I say, congratz on making her the squadmate. The game will be more enjoyable for Tali fans.

This is why I am excited for ME3. I didn't like what happened to Kaidan or Ash on Horizon, and so I see ME3 as a chance to make them awesome to me once again.

^ Agreed, though I didn't really got that angry at what happened on Horizon.
To tell the truth, I'm truly looking forward to the game, I really really hope it delivers, for everyone of course... :)

Problem being, we'd then have the same situation as ME2. Lots of characters with not enough to say. Like i said earlier BW shot themselves in the foot having 12 squaddies in ME2. If they kept it to 6/7 they would probably have enough time and money to give all of the characters a good part.

Yeah. Three or four new squadmates would've been better than ten.

I hope they can cover as many bases as possible to keep all fans happy. I wouldn't like to see the hate that's been perpetuated in a number of threads and posts here on BSN. I hope see Miranda and Thane up with team dextro. I think I'll be very happy in that instance.

@Tasha that's a wonderful pic!

Well there was a pretty significant change from me1 tali to part 2. In game it was only two years, but tali accomplished alot in that little time and she had matured a bit. Who knows how she'll react in tough situations in 3. * Seeing her upset shepard walks over to tali to give her a hug, just to reassure everything will be ok. Shepard reaches for her but tali backs up see's Garrus, walks up to him, and punches him right dead in the face.*

Well I don't know the details about it since I really don't want to spoil too much, but is anyone else a little annoyed that tali became admiral? I've been arguing against that since the end of ME2 when people were debating it.

It just seems she doesn't have the experience to be a military leader in my opinion, that and it reinforces the "princess of her people" trope.

Apparently she only holds the position temporarily, and is mostly given it because of her superior knowledge of the geth, not because she is seen as a great military leader.

I for one, am very annoyed.  It does not fit her character and I cannot see ANY of the Admirals allowing that to happen  She does not have anywhere near the exerience an Admiral needs to make informed decisions.
Unfortunately, we are stuck with it.

This "Tali is only a squadmate because of the fans" thing is good to know (it's a good indication that they do listen, despite what some would have you believe), but I do worry that this news is only going to make some of the anti-Tali people even more bitter than they already are.

Indeed, Cthulhu42, you read my mind...
I fear this will exacerbate the, erm, "innate tension" (yeah, politically correctness, bear with me) in the community fandoms... Let's hope this doesn't bring a new wave of trolling and spite from both sides... :/

Speaking from a few hours later now, it looks like we were right, unfortunately. I've seen the BSN go incredibly crazy over some pretty minor things before, but this one takes the cake.

Nope, I haven't. Out of curiosity, what was something more minor that caused greater rage? I mean, people flipped out over multiplayer or the spoiler leaks, but those were big things. This was not.

Let them hate Tali. We pushed her to heights Bioware could not have foreseen. They are just bitter that they could not do the same with their own favourite character.

Well, it looks as if the hate *might* die down some as this recent post on the Miranda Thread by Jessica Merizan indicates Chris might have either jumped the gun some or flat out misheard something:

-Hey guys, that Tali thing is incorrect. I've confirmed this with two different writers tonight.
*snip* (She chastizes some guy here)
For everyone else, if you know anything about me (which is completely understandable if you don't) Miranda is my favorite character in the series. I've always wanted to cosplay as her but silly insecurities get in the way. So I'm definitely hoping she's a squad member or has some kind of prominent role in the game. After spending time with the writing team and devs in general, I know they have good reasons for doing things and I trust they'll treat Miranda with care (all the IP really).
But we can sit on pins and needles together ;) -

So it looks like poor Evil Chris might end up getting a stern talking to. But, on the plus side, while Tali remains a strong character for ME3 her popularity did not nessaarily influence other characters being reduced in either ME2 or ME3. Basically, despite what was posted by Chris, we're not to blame.

Yeah, I read that post and asked Chris on the Twitter thread what was up with that. Still no reply yet...

But yeah, despite all, the hate, it doesn't change the fact that Tali still has a large role in ME3 (whether due to fans or not), and we can all still be happy about that.

Well, there was this date people were looking forward to for DA2, and when nobody liked the announcement, people started posting complaints and other stuff in other topics, starting other topics, and even started making banners saying 'Remember something'.  Mods started warning and maybe even banning people like crazy.  I even ended up with a warning myself even though I certainly don't remember insulting anyone, or if I did, it was something along the lines of 'Stop acting like something'.  Also, before there was a social forums, there was a time a bunch of trolls took advantage on the MEforums when they realized the mods were out for the weekend.  And the whole forum basically became troll city.

Don't you have any sympathy for them? Wouldn't you be pissed if Miranda or Jack was elevated to squaddie status at the cost of relegating Tali to a cameo position?

Everyone deserves their money's worth when it comes to squadmates, and right now Garrus and Tali fans are the only ones getting that.

Actually, both Mr. Priestly and Miss Merizan confirmed this is not the case in a few posts made today...
No real "permanent" squaddies, at least that's what was said...

I can't speak for Cthulhu42, but I for one feel a great deal of simpathy towards them, I hope everyone will get his or her due in ME3, but that was not the point of my discussion with him/her...

To clarify what we were saying (at least how I understood it), I'll use your example: if Tali was relegated to cameo I wouldn't be ecstatic, that's a given, but I'll trust the devs did that for a good reason (story or plot driven), so there would be little point in getting too angry; however, if it comes out another character who got the "spotlight", so to speak, only got that far because the fans demanded it, that would cause me a few bad thoughts...

Considering the general situations in the BSN, a lot will make the assumption (regarless of whether there's any kind of evidence) that their favourite got "demoted" to give space to the one that was "promoted", and that will cause a lot of grief to all parties involved...

In this specific instance, given how Talimancers tend to have a lot of "bad PR", this could push a lot of people who are neutral or merely dislikes the character into fullblown hatedom just out of spite, the trolling that almost inevitably follows causes a lot of pain to just about everyone...
I hope I'm wrong. After all, the thing was clarified, but I have alredy seen a few troll threads pop up, and the attitude of some people doesn't help either...
Sorry to have bothered you with long winded talk, Arcian... Let's sit tight and hope this passes fast... :(

Chris Priestly wrote...

... Seems to be some misunderstanding here. You know I never said she was a permanent squadmate, right? Just that she was one at some point (or maybe some points) in ME3. right? And you shouldn't get all worked up about things you don't fully understand yet, right?

Right.

Because taking spoilers devulged to overeager fans from filthy hackers seriously was never going to end well. But people don't want to wait till the actual game comes out before going off half cocked...

And as far as people getting their moneys worth - I can agree, I don't think I would be happy as a Miranda fan if she was given short shrift - except that can't be confirmed as yet.

As I said in the Miranda thread earlier, parading gleefully about one one character over an other is petty and stupid.

Is it worth killing off some crew to bring Legion on Tali's loyalty quest? Anyone done it?

ive done it and i didnt get any crew members killed. the actual countdown starts after you get the reaper iff. once u have the reaper iff, you have 2-3 missions/relayjumps of breathing room before the reapers jump you and collectz all your normandys. when that happens, i usually jump through the omega relay to be on the safeside right after.

the best way to get legion talking to do the final mission is to have some missions left over after the iff like leftover loyalty missions. this will trigger new dialogue for him. only do those missions and dont go anywhere else.
