How 'bout we move on to a different topic, like the Quarians (read: pronounced kurry-an by BW head of marketing for some ridiculous reason).
Who are these creatures and how to they impact the story? Why do they have the same spelling as the Quarians (read: Kwar-ian) we know?

Well least you wouldn't have to worry about B.O. being a sterile environment and all. : )

This thread is getting dangerously close to "quarian sweat" territory...:?

Well its not as bad as the dreaded "Quman" hypothesise.

I'm eager to see how the admirals react and what they do behind courtains in ME3.

Ugg, "behind courtains"... Yup, I guess that Daro and Koris have hate-sex in every room of the Qwib-Qwib.

In the novels it is explained that becouse there is almost no personal space in the fleet, they wear it as a form of privacy.

No kidding.

My bathroom is bigger than a quarian family's entire apartment.

Well least you wouldn't have to worry about B.O. being a sterile environment and all. You know how it is when your in a small space packed with people.

Also in the books, there are bathrooms on the lower levels.  It is one of the only places they remove the suits on the fleet.

It's not like it's the first character we have to get a date to gain their race's loyalty.

But hey, whatever helps the cause, right?:P

Do you suppose they have a similar room for Tali on the Normandy? That could also be how she somehow manages to change outfits all the time.

Medical bay sterile fields or, most likely, the Normandy's airlock.
That is, until Shepard gets his cabin upgraded. :)

Nah, she just breaks out a brush and a set of paints and goes to work.

Oh wait. Changing suits? It was hypothesized that the quarians envirosuits are multi-layer. The all important main suit, that actually touching her skin, was never removed. Just an outer covering, like a coat. The new/different outer covering was just added on top.

And it boosts her armour stats? I want some of that bulletproof paint.

I'm pretty curious about the new outfits Tali will get in ME3. I hope their appearance is a good indication to what kind of status change they'll bring.

Like, an armored suit brings more damage resistance and one with slightly more shield emitters brings more shield points. Or something.

Some should be a surprise, though.

Yeah, she gets that engine/brake caliper paint from space autozone. It contains ceramic, which as we all know is the ultimate essential componant in light weight bullet-resisting armor.

Looking forward to Tali's new armor choices as well.  Just hope they ditch the stupid HUD on her HUD/Visor.  Must make it impossible to see through.

It comes from a speculative series called "Ancient Aliens" (on the History Channel, no less), where a bunch of theorists lays out the idea that ancient cultures were nurtured and supplied with technology by aliens, gracefully narrated by the voice actor of Jim Raynor from Starcraft II. Some parts are rather interesting and thought-provoking imho, while other parts are completely outlandish and doesn't deserve a second thought. One of the latter was the theory that the pharaohs interbred with aliens, and that it explains... something. Oh, and they think the reason why Hitler was so successful in early WW2 was because of aliens. Go figure.

Your bathroom is probably bigger than my apartment, too (I live in Tokyo). Posted Image

People here don't wear environmental suits for privacy though (we just have none), but they do like wearing masks when they're sick to prevent spreading it around. Hmm...

As for Killjoy's comments about beneficial viruses not making sense. I'm not a biologist, but I don't think it's that far fetched. Even here on earth, the most successful viruses are not the most deadly, as there is no advantage for the virus in killing the host. If viruses have evolved to fill an additional gap in the ecology (due to the lack of insects) that situation might be even stronger.

In fact, you could perhaps argue that if all indigenous life on Rannoch has weak immune systems it would prevent very potent viruses from evolving. Any really bad virus strain would probably kill the entire village/community/whatever before it has a chance of spreading further (and insects aren't there to help the spread either). Of course this ignores the possibility of a virus that can be communicated by one species and affects another, which would make it possible. It's a complex situation, and again, I'm not a biologist.

In a world without insects, I would expect most of the plant (and perhaps animal) life to be unlike anything we've ever seen on earth. For example, the main reason flowers have colorful petals and strong fragrances is to attract insects. I do hope they'll be able to do that justice when we visit Rannoch in ME3.

Your speculation is not far off base at all. I'm not a biologist either, but from the courses I did take there is some evidence of something very similar to that. One of the accepted theories floating about now does state that viruses themselves HAVE played a role in the evolution of species.

The theory goes like this: The virus protein capsid usually contains strands of its own DNA which is injected into the host cell (which enzymes are used to then create messenger RNA) in order to turn the host cell into a living virus factory. The host cell then creates new protein capsids with Virus DNA in them and releases them (either through cell death by rupturing or exocytosis). However nothing is "perfect" in this process, and sometimes bits of the host cell's DNA are packaged into the virus capsid. The new virus with the host cell DNA injects this into a new host cell, which may incorporate the strand into its own DNA. For lack of a better (short) explanation, this can alter all sorts of things, good and bad, as that cell continues to live and divide into new cells which now contain copies of its DNA.

As for flowers, those only exist in angiosperms which developed to form a symbiotic relationship with animals which were relatively *new* at the time. Gymnosperms (conifers, pines, etc) have been around much longer without the same relationship and have obviously done just fine. They don't need pollen, only the wind to carry their spores to the cones of another gymnosperm. Flowers aren't specifically for insects though, many other animals can find them attractive and do essentially the same job as the average bee.
