Indeed. It was never my intention to Troll. Kind of feel like I was the victum of one, but maybe that's just me...Either way, sorry folks. Think I'd blast myself out an airlock if I got the Tali thread locked.

Today was Monday (technically it's Tuesday now). How was that the weekend? And that thread had been going for over a week. It had stubbornly refused to die until today.

Sorry if I was snarky glenboy but you were making all sorts of assumptions about tali that we honestly don't know about. WOULD a quarian be as close to their mothers as a human? Or to be more specific, would TALI find herself to have strong ties to her own mother? These are things we just don't know about and we shouldn't directly assume. I mean if everyone on the flotilla is considered close family, and tali barely mentions anything about her mother in over three games, I think that is a good indicator of tali's mother being unimportant or at the most unoffensive.

You saying tali HAS to be strongly affected by her mother is a major assumption. As "human" as all of these aliens are we can't just directly translate out values onto theirs.

Even if you insist to use human values, So far, in all three games and the script, tali's mother has been unimportant for everything save giving birth to her. She talks almost entirely of her father because he is indeed a MAJOR influence upon her life, both privately and professionally.

I will also admit I am tired of parents (or family) being the main way to facilitate character development. Tali has already had her familial aspect of her character explored (and one could argue that raan could be considered her mother now) I would like to advance her character in some other way. Perhaps look more into her education (she apparently has military training) or her work (she was upgraded to a "scientist" somewhat in ME2) or hell as much as I hate it perhaps the politics rout.

I'm just tired of hearing about family issues, and well tired of being a therapist in general.

Nice attempt to use snarky comments to deflect the points I made. classy and mature.

And since when does being an alien race negate the need to express sorrow over loss. Especially in Mass Effect the Citadel races seem quite human in regards to how they express a broad spectrum of emotions. Shepard and other characters even joke about how many of the races suffer from "Human" nature. Regardless, Tali being non-human has nothing to do with a desire to see an element of the character's personal history fleshed out a bit more.

As to the Squadmates, there are really only 4 characters that have complex histories with thier parents, Ashley, Tali, Liara, and Wrex. Garrus doesn't so much have problems with his father, his father simply doesn't like Spectres and thinks Garrus is missing his true calling with C-Sec. But he doesn't hate, want to kill him or anything like that. Also, the central characters having various issues with thier parents lends weight to the overall intention of the Mass Effect story, i.e. what has come before, how those things have changed us, and the legacy we leave behind. Those elements are closly tied in with parentage.

As to whether or not we might ever hear more about Tali's mother? What has leaked from the game's script is an early draft and, since said draft, much more dialogue could have been added. Many of the voice actors, including Ms. Sroka, have mentioned that they've gone in to record ME dialogue as recently as last month. So, at this point, it's rather myopic to assume we will never hear anything about Tali's mother, especially given one of the possible endings for ME3.

Look, you've put down a lot of good reasons for a subject you feel should see some more light, but it's a moot point. This arguement isn't going to go anywhere useful from here on out. If its written in the script, we'll see it (or rather hear it). If it isn't, we won't. Choice to complain about it at that point is up to whoever feels they need to further continue a fruitless debate.  Regardless, there is no control we personally have to see *if* this info comes to light later, we can only wait. Or you could pick apart the spoiled script.

I'll concede this has gone on far too long. Honestly, I didn't intend for it to. However, once Nash here came out of left field with his condescening remarks, well, I fell for the oldest trick in the book, i.e. someone getting you riled up in an attempt to make themselves look superior, far more knowledgable, and so forth. Christ, it's like a moth to a flame. My whole initial point was just that I thought it would be great to learn more about Tali's mother. That's it. However, well, I got baited. So, yeah, case closed.
:pinched:

My intent was never to troll. Sorry if it seemed that way. I was simply offering my own opinion on the matter, mainly that I do not think tali's mother is all that important and I would like other aspects of her character fleshed out and/or explored.

I didn't even consider this a fight as much as a debate. Which confuses me, are arguments discouraged in this thread now? There wasn't even any hate going on that I am aware of.

Edit: Ah nevermind the last mini paragraph. You guys are talking talking about some other thread not the argument in this one.

Can't do sound on this computer right now, but that name amused me. Tali, child of Metal, crew of the Theme Song. Kind of makes me want to repost the pic of Tali rocking out on guitar with Shep and co, (even though Trombone Shepard steals the show). =P

But the Qwib-Qwib is from the Berserker series.  What I believe to be the inspiration of the Reapers.
And I love the way Tali says "Do not ask about the name."  :)

I think Qwib-Qwib sounds cute.

And don't disrespect the man who's in charge of it either.

I love the way Shepard then promptly ignores that and asks about it anyway (well, mine did, anyway). Posted Image

But I shouldn't make fun of the Qwib-Qwib... I used to sail on boats called Tjilinkie and Knierts, which most of you won't be able to even pronounce, I'll bet. Posted Image

(Laughs) Are you kidding? That's my favorite part of that conversation! As is Tali's reaction when you do exactly what she suggested you *not* do.

I Always ask about the ships name.  Just to hear Zaal mention the Ictomy or Defranz (sp)

Agreed, the minute someone tells me *not* to do something, that's the first thing I do. All around a great conversation. I'm thinking I may use the Qwib-Qwib name for my legacy in SW:TOR. Truly epic.

On the Iktomi, there are no problems with overpopulation.

Yes, and as predicted previously be prepared for hundreds of stupid names based on variations of popular characters.

They already have (basically) a working, mobile male model for characters like Reegar and others, so I'd be pretty disappointed if they didn't include it as an option. Otherwise I think I'd stick to Turian/Human soldier classes, maybe Salarian.

No, the name is the same as your account name.

Don't see why we won't be able to play as a male quarian, though.

Oh, and I'll give Tali that pistol the Guardians are using if I can. Turns out that it's a shotgun/pistol hybrid. It's perfect for her. ^_^
