Ah, so THIS is why you guys keep depicting her as an abusive b*tch in fanart and fanfics.exelsis wrote...
No, it'll be "commander, Tali wishes to speak to you in your quarters" and then you go up there and can't find her, and then she POUNCES ON YOUR BACK, traps you on the bed, then proceeds to alternate between slapping you and making out. Did I mention she was wearing lengerie? I've thought about ME3 too much.

Yeah, of course. If they knew how science and technology would function 200 years into the future, BioWare would revolutionize the modern world. Sadly, reality isn't that fun, so they have to work with what they already have, which isn't much except some basic axioms and speculative stuff that might turn out to be bull in the coming 50 years.Unschuld wrote...

Ah, killjoy.
There's still a decent number of relatable analogues written into the fictional universe though.

Why does he/she spend so long on Earth anyway? I guess it's basically just another contrived "time skip" plot device, just like the Lazarus Project?
Well, that and I guess picking the Normandy apart and putting it back together with some upgrades takes time.
Funny enough, the Reaper attack on Earth starts June 6, 2186.
Phase inspections, where an aircraft is essentially stripped down to individual components, can take months. That's just for inspection purposes and replacement of worn parts, and maybe a small dynamic component upgrade or two. Stripping down something many times that size not only for inspection but also retrofitting and reverse-engineering parts, well....
But niether do we have quantification of just how advanced, and more complex, such things are.

Oh, I'm sure some if not most are actually married/in a relationship. What I meant by the entire post is that BW has made a big issue of LI's (almost as much as us fans). If they are going to deal with (what they consider) cheating, then they should also be dealing with other aspects of having a LI. At that means the trial.Someone With Mass wrote...

That is, unless the writers are all pimply faced nerds awaiting their own first dates. As a married man, I know what I would have done even before I said 'I do'.
I believe with strong certainty that Patrick Weekes is married (to a BioWare editor, no less), so you probably don't have to worry about that.
Miranda flipped off TIM and left the safety of Cerberus.
Jack actually calmed down.
Garrus um, ah, had reach? (NEVER done any female Sheps in ME2)
Tali trusted her life to Shepard both figuratively and physically.
Even with events going on in their own areas, Shepard would not have been forgotten/ignored.

I don't believe I have ever depicted her as such. And I know of many authors who have not as well. Mayhap you're reading the wrong FFs?Arcian wrote...

Oh. Yeah, I can see the problem in that.
The thing is that Tali could more than likely do more back at the fleet than sitting around with Shepard in the brig (though, I bet it'd be a lot more entertaining for him than a cot and warm food) for about six months, as well as every other LI.
Not to mention that all romances are optional, so I think they'll design everyone of them around the story instead of the other way around.

I'm not trying to argue the point, I know why they're there etc.
An interesting thing to consider though is that even if 200 years pass (or less) and we look back on most of the depictions of future technology portrayed and laugh at their primitive visions, it may still influence the flow of technology. Most of what the history/discovery channels are bunk most of the time, but the program where they linked the development of some of our modern technology (the cell phone/star trek communicator was facinating) to objects in older science fiction movies was enough to pique my interest.
Little things, little bits of tech are what I can see happening. Those little datapads are pretty much what I can see the iPad turning into (which doesn't take too much imagination), and the little "holographic" haptic interfaces they're trying to figure out are pretty damn amazing too. Not holding my breath for mass relays or FTL yet.
My musing about future phase inspections was more whimsical than anything else.

I'd imagine the Alliance being a little more cautious with this one. His word, or even Hackett's word about him leaving that organization doesn't carry an incredible amount of weight. For all they know he could be a double agent. Or just insane, considering he just wiped out a star system.

I'm pretty sure that they want to ask him about other things.
Like the imminent Reaper invasion and why he killed another Spectre along with many other things he's done.
Besides:

I don't think the squadmates wants any of that.

Physically attacking someone is abuse per definition. The dictionary or the law doesn't give a f**k if you're okay with it or not. Also, being okay with your girlfriend hitting you is a good indication that your mental and emotional state is extremely fragile and that you need to get some serious psychological help. Like a really hard punch to the face and a rousing speech made by some guy with a magnetic personality and the propensity to kick ass and take names. Preferably cool ones like Ron Axemaster or Bert Eaglefriend.exelsis wrote...
Not abusive tali, but tali who loves you, and was prevented from contact for an extended periods of time, and is attempting to simultaneously punish you for not being with her and make up for lost time by making out. Hot? yes. Abusive? no.
Good thing we have such people in real life.

Ah, but Hackett gave Liara Shepards dogtags. He is aware of what has be going on. So he would also be inclined to pass a message or two from someone he knows to Shepard. Especially if that someone is a person of great interest to Shepard.Unschuld wrote...
