Didn't think it was possible, but I think I have a new reason to love Tali; that imagery is priceless. :P

I should have added a bit more involving her going back down stairs, didn't think about it at the time.^_^

I should have clarified, its not the jarhead I had issue with as much as the "idiot" part. Granted the family member I have in mind didn't have a college education but still. :P

To be technical tali isn't military. She has military training I believe, but she is more the snarky engineer girl downstairs that sometimes comes up to yell and/or flirt with shep.

Hah, sorry.  The idiot was for Vega, not the Marines.  I see no point in having it aboard the Normandy as there were plenty of crew that could have been used.

And I was referring to Vega, not Tali, when I stated giving nicknames.  Every Marine I ever meet was actually rather respectful towards others, and always towards their superiors.  And any of Shepards team are his surperiors.  Um, just don't get them drinking, all bets off then.  :)

That said, it is out of character for him to be giving nicknames to any of the crew.  And just plain rude to do it to seasoned vets.  That goes for Tali, Garrus, Liara, Ashley or any of the ME2 crew as well.  He is not their piers, he has not done what they have.  And a newb does not do that in the military, ever.

I ordered the ce for 3. It would be awesome (well for tali fans) instead of a n7 patch it came with a purple swirl handkerchief (yes i'd carry it everywhere) and a download for some purple swirl bedsheets for shepards quarters : ). Sorry but I loves dem swirls!

If I remember correctly vega is a veteran too calinstel, at least for alliance space. He is only wide eyed and noobie to the whole alien galactic politics thing.

That's pretty damn cool.

That nickname might grow on me after all.

And no.  Didn't read any of the script for Vega.  New guys do NOT give nicknames to vets.  If you're military, you know that.

And sometimes we like to call you "squids"... ;)

Semper Fidelis. Yut yut.

That's actually one of the reasons Tali felt more "comfortable" as a LI. Outside the chain of command. As if Ash in the first game wasn't enough, my adjutant getting cute with me within the first few minutes of ME2 nearly made be blow a blood vessel in my eye.

Put more of the stuff in the thing... *hic* where the more stuff goes in..

I can somewhat forgive this, seeing as Bioware had an E-5 (I'm speculating that there aren't any "inbetween" ranks shown) hitting on her commanding officer right out of the box. I can't remember the last time a ship's CO and XO went down to lead point on every single ground operation either, lol. Oh, and beards. Beards everywhere. As long as Vega's character is done well, he won't end up running laps around the quarterdeck. Maybe.

Are you talking about Kelly?

Isn't everyone on the Normandy SR-2 non-military, considering that Cerberus is not a military organization?

You know it.

Yes, but it's still an organized unit. Even civilian operations have a chain of command. I'm not a complete hard-ass about this issue, maybe not as much as I make it seem, but it still irks me a bit.
In summation:

"I didn't hear an 'officer on deck'! I run this ship military. Do you two think this is all a joke?!?"
I never chose that dialogue option but I find it pretty hilarious considering the other things mentioned. Maybe I will next time.

@Unschuld:

First, let me say I have nothing but respect for the Marines. There has always been sniping back and forth with them and the Navy. :)

Vega is the new kid on the block. Someone just assigned to a ship, no matter their rank, is still a newb until they have spent time and effort aboard that ship. Six months to a year are usually spent by that new member just meeting the crew and learning the ship. Until you have your quals done, you may have respect due to rank but you will still be considered a liability. And the new kid never, ever gives out nicknames. Also, it indicates a level of familiarity that is out of place by him. To me, he may be a good character but, with all the heat about cameo characters, he is unwanted.

And hell, we call ourselves squids and bubbleheads! :)

Let me rephrase that Marine comment. I have always found the Marines respectful of others, WHEN they can be heard by those outside their ranks. :) And never, EVER, get a female Marine started cussing. They WILL make you blush!

To keep this Tali related:

Part of the reason Tali's character and demeanor fit to me is that she is a Marine. Raised as one, trained as one and the very makeup of the quarian fleet means she will always be one even if rank is not mentioned. Even if she moves up in the Naval rankings, her basic Marine training will be there. A hellion in close quarter combat, strong sense of duty and ready to put her life between the enemy and her people. And always polite to all until you get her pissed. Then, all bets are off.

Anyone think that during the quarian/volus/racist idiot mini quest that Tali truly showed how much she had grown? 2 years before, I doubt she would have brought any attention to herself during the confrontation. Now, she not only stands her ground but actually voices her opinion out loud. Now that is character growth.

Bwahaha! No offence taken, no worries. A little interbranch rivalry and occasional ribbing is all good. In the end, its one big, happy family. That being said, there are plenty of "Vegas" around to perpetuate the jarhead stereotype.

I do feel bad about derailing the topic a bit recently though, I just like to connect life experience into the game and I feel it influences a great deal of my decisions.

Never thought of Tali as a Marine before. I guess she does fit into the combat engineer category, and there's no one else on the team I'd rather take with to dispose a bomb (besides Legion perhaps). I don't see why some people still view her as a "kid". She's young, but like you said there was a pretty significant change in her personality/maturity between the first two games.

I thought that the most outspoken example of how her character had developed was at Haestrom when her holographic image was speaking to Shepard. I imagine that in ME1, she would have focussed more on seeing Shepard again, and talking about the situation she is in and expressing guilt about how quarians had given their lives for her.

But in ME2, she gets over the initial shock of seeing Shepard (again!) and calmly relays instructions to him/her in order to help the quarians covering her. She doesn't play the part of a damsel in distress, but showed a lot of maturity.

Reading the letter she was writing in the Shadow Broker files actually made me sad.

It was a log of Tali attempting to write a letter to the families of the marines and other members of the Haestrom group. She writes a line or two, deletes it, reapeat several times.

It was mostly her writing letters to the families of the soldiers that died on Haestrom and constantly rewriting them, because she didn't know how to break the news to them.

I've hated the Shadow Broker from the very beginnings of the series. Way too much power to have, especially when you consider that someone as technologically conscious as Tali can notice all of the bugs on the SR-2 but not the one monitoring her suit and omnitool. Sure, in a way it brought a sort of balance to the power of the galaxy's nations, at least until he stupidly tried to make deals with the reapers through the collectors. If Shep can be so DERP at times, yet be able to put all the pieces of that together, something is wrong.

If Liara turns into something like that, becomes drunk and over-inflated with power, I think she might have to be off'ed. I'd have Shepard send one last "Haha! Screw you guys, I'm goin' home!" to all of SB's contacts and plunge the station into the heart of that planet.

Good. I felt bad enough having Shep tell Liara "There's nothing between us", I'd imagine aerating her torso would feel worse.

I must admit I feel the same way you do about the SB and Tali's suit information.  There is no way in hell that information should have been available.  The quarians have always taken security to its highest level and after Cerberus and the Idenna, even more so.  The only info the SB should have had was the parts dealing with Tali's communication to himself and that is all.
The letters to the deceased were good but still, the security breach that allowed that to be seen is just unbelivable and with the suit updates logs, a very poor and childish attempt by BW to troll the Tali supporters and add more ammo for ridicule from the Tali haters.
When I read that in LotSB, I realized the creators of ME were 12 year olds.

I doubt they were thinking what can we do to bring on the Tali flames and s/s cries. I think someone was tasked to make the SB dossiers on everyone and they got to Tali and went ...... what the crap do I do about her? So they tried to just toss things in there and what this person chose to write that they thought would be interesting to know about her turns into generating speculations, wishes of retcon, flames, and more Tali fans all in one swoop. I very much doubt anyone intended these files to be anything more then interesting facts on your crewmen.

I don't see what the big deal is. Anyone who knows anything about networking knows that there is no such thing as perfect or impregnable security. The only way for a quarian to not have any risk to security would be to not have their suit have any networking functionality at all, and we already know tali doesn't do that.

Her download logs would be easy enough to get no need for any special explanation, a simple bribe to whatever company is selling or hosting the software is sufficient to gain that knowledge. Add a keylogger to nervestim "pro" (hiding the keylogger under the extra features) and you instantly have a way to find out about the letters she was writing.

Honestly with the resources avaislbe to the shadow broker I wouldn't be surprised if he has small army of white, grey, and black hats creating new hacking methods and ways to defeat them.

I hate to be a 'Yes' man, but I agree with part from both of those posts. As I said before, while I find the fact that these private files were ferreted out to be unbelievable, Tali's letter to the deceased Quarians under her command was touching to say the least (and a welcome insight into her character). It struck a particular chord within me.

In regards to the other document, I think no matter what is done any certain fanbase will be criticized by other "competing" fanbases, especially the Tali/Dextro group because of our perceived favorable treatment by the developers.
