Thank you for reminding me I need to catch up on Red vs. Blue over the holidays. =P

As for that oufit, while it looks neat, it doesn't really fit "quarian" to me. Way too regal-looking. And a quarian could make a pretty mean sniper (seems safer for them, to be honest), yet somehow I doubt Tali would ever willing trade out her trusty shotguns.

Donut, I know you want to safeguard your masculinity, but really now, it would be a whole lot easier just to say pink.

I still hate the fact that Tali will become an admiral. It just doesn't feel right, I feel she should take an advisory roll at best. She just doesn't have the military experience to lead a small detatchment, let alone the whole damn flotilla.

It makes no sense but it is one of the smaller problems ME3 has.

sometimes to get to the top, its not what you know, its WHO you know. and in politics, this is law.

Tali's father was an Admiral, the Quarian equivalent of a nation leader. And in a society where they don't really get to vote who get's promoted to that role, Tali is the next real candidate.

theres also quarian tradition wrapped up in there. How an Admiral's son or daughter would inherit their spot, like a Monarchy. Tali talks about it in ME1.

It is worth noting, BTW, that in the Flotilla, "admiral" is at least as much a political title as it is a military rank.

Indeed, but that's because the Flotilla is technically under martial law since the exile, so they are admirals first and political figures second (in theory at least), as it's the fact they were admirals to begin with that makes them eligible as political figures under martial law...
In practice, they recreated a form of democratic government in the form of the conclave (and local ship councils) who are the "actual" political forces on the Flotilla, even though the last say always rests to the ship captains and the Admiralty...

At least, that's how I remember it from the codex and discussions with Tali throughout the game...

The Admiralty are largely figureheads with reserve powers and a lot of influence, until the flotilla is at war. Then they take charge.

Tali, as I understand it, is an acting admiral to get the board up to 5 again, chosen because of her celebrity status, and because lineage is a big deal amongst quarians. Keeps in line with the recurring idea that on the fleet, everyone just sees the Zorah name, and not her, not really.

One does have to wonder at the level of desperation within the quarian fleet to appoint a person only 4 years past their pilgrimage to the rank of Admiral.
Adviser to an Admiral, yes, I can see that. But an actual Admiral? Even if just in name, it really shows how readily some will use others for their own ambitions.

I believe the book mentioned that the quarian ships have sterile rooms where they can bathe.

But Tali doesn't live on a quarian ship. So what does she do?

Ummm, pure speculation there. I guess that quarians don't have to bathe that frequently due to the sterile suit environments. Although i suppose some sort of portable decontamination unit could be installed in the bathrooms and she could lock other people out of the room for that time.

I hear commander shepard has a private shower. Mayhap he shares? I'm cool with sharing.

Okay now. What is so funny about me including a :) in my statements?

Nothing in particular, just that using it at the end of a statement that should be considered serious just seems a bit amusing to me. I should do it more often.

And for ME3, if they kept the ME2 look, I would actually be more than happy. It was a GREAT design.

I know, but since they said they were redesigning the suit, I can't imagine that they will stick with ME2's version. Here's hoping they do and that any alternate appearance will be the redesigned version. Everyone wins. Those of us who like the familiarities of the ME2 version will simply not bother with the redesign unless we really want to. Those who like the new version are free to use it 'til their hearts' content. :)

That isn't suppossed to be Tali, just a random quarian sniper-girl. I do very much like it either way, with the exception of the Protoss Zealot leg armor.

Given that it uses all of the "personal customizations" of Tali's suit in ME2 (Such as the golden neck brace/armour/adornment, veil-hood, etc.), I don't think many people are going to think that's *not* Tali...

Big cats don't have six legs. It's obviously a beetle. Bombardier beatle, even. It'd explain the cannon. Mako look-alike called the Scarab for ME3.

That was a petition. Maybe I should've capitalized the first letter in each word. Y'know, like "Amish Beard for Shepard in ME3!"

what does tali look like without her hood? whats behind her helmet? is it like a bunch of tubes or something?

I figure its the same as a male, but whats interesting is what dem tubes are used for and what they connect with. People say her suit probably is not that difficult to take off. I agree, except for the helmet. The visor may pop right off but the rest... not so much. I've also heard some say the suit that we see on the outside is not the actual suit and that she has a inner suit that always stays on with the exception of bathing. But I don't think thats true, nothing has specified otherwise that I've read.

Bathing? Considering how dangerous it is for a quarian to remove their suit I would assume they have some sort of sanitation function in their suits to prevent the need for baths. I also would suspect some sort of waste recycling system but I assume no one wants to dwell upon that idea.

I believe the book mentioned that the quarian ships have sterile rooms where they can bathe.

How does that help the quarians on pilgrimage? Not that many designated clean rooms in the galaxy.

Besides to be honest about this... Unless quarian biology is so out in the left field that it isn't comparable to our own, things are going to get nasty in that suit without some way to keep it clean without leaving it.

I mean you know how bad smelling socks and undergarments smell after just a day or two of use? Imagine wearing a plastic suit over all that, and you can never take that plastic suit off. The stench would be horrible, and it would not be good for your health.

Socks are absorbent and provide a paradise for bacteria that feed on chemicals released in sweat or oils on your skin. Since quarians are all about sterility, their suits probably have FAR fewer bacteria of any type than your average human's skin. The suit also probably keeps itself as dry as possible, soaking up any sweat or liquids and purifying them. With fewer microorganisms and a far less pleasant environment for them to live, smell would probably not be much of a problem.

Decontamination and sterilization would surely be of pretty vital importance to everyone on a starship, not just Quarians

If the suit itself is designed to keep as dry as possible you just proved my point. :P

Anyone else notice that the topics in other character discussion/support/whatever threads usually involve talking about said character's personality, choices, what they'd do if placed in certain situations, etc (Not going to mention the nude fanart spam or "my-character-is-better-than-errbody-even-Shepard" content)?

Whereas we only ever talk about Tali's suit, what she could look like, and why she shouldn't be an Admiral?

Just sayin'.

Not every fanthread. I've lurked in the Miranda thread, and it's mainly talking about how her character's been butchered in ME3 and complaining about how small her role is. Since the leak, anyway.

While we of course have nothing to whine about in those departments.^_^

I know it's bad, but I can't help laughing at Mirimancers who go around acting all pissy because she (or supposedly ... I haven't read the leaks) got some sh*tty role in ME3.

Well, she *was* plot-essential in ME2, so it's really quite understa--

Woops, there I go being antagonistic. I know there's a potential drunk Tali scene, but I'd really like to see a drunk Tali in a club with the rest of the crew. I'm a fan of teasing; I know, you'd never have guessed.

Adding more drunkenness to ME can never be a bad thing (matter of fact, the drunk Tali scene was one of my favourite in the leak).

The strongest Quarian alcoholic beverage there is, of the very short list (Not many Quarians open up a distillery on pilgrimmage). Surprisingly, even stronger than any Turian concoctions. It is simply called, "Keelah".

Mix that w/ a shot of Se'lai and you've got yourself a party.
