I think someone already mentioned it, that while the quills would be an interesting and unique way to portray her hair, I personally would have a difficult time getting over the fact that it would remind me of a certain ex-ghost every time I saw it.
As for the mamashep slapping issue, I'd have to say that wouldn't mesh with me. It would take a certain type of personality to smack a grown man/woman (I don't just mean a shrew), and I didn't gather that from the tone of Hannah Shepard's letter. Even though obviously annoyed, she seemed well versed enough in the way military life sometimes operates to understand why her son/daughter was keeping a tight lip on the situation. That being said, I'd still like to see some sort of meeting/confrontation where she can meet Shep face-to-face and get some answers and provide some genuine motherly discourse.
Tali slapping Shepard? No. Not if we're talking about when she and Shep meet up again after the little trial debacle. I think she'd be mature enough to understand that Shepard is just doing his duty in answering for crimes they've accused him with. If she slapped him for this alone being the reason for his absence, I'd have to call her character development into question. It's not like he had a choice or betrayed her.
*edit* Crap, top of page. I have nothing in the way of images so I guess I'll try to find something*
