He said she was not asexual. Abstinence doesn't necessitate asexuality. Just as someone having only heterosexual relations (ME2 Tali) isn't necessarily heterosexual. And if they are, they aren't required to always be.

not act on sexual feelings. asexuals, while not physically sexual-type
folks, are none the less quite capable of loving, affectionate, romantic
ties to others.
That defines Tali's character in ME1. In ME2, BW specifically chose to make Tali a romantic interest to maleshep only. BW then, in ME2, defined Tali as heterosexual. Continue to argue, I am done. What remains to be seen is if BW holds true to their previous choice or, as with most things lately in ME, they rewrite the rules yet a third time.
