Been on skyrim as well. But now I've got that feeling again so I just finished me1 and now started on 2 to get pumped for 3. I'm still dizzy from the mako. I'm so excited for march.
This is one of the very few things that actually really chafes me about Bioware taking so much fan input to heart (normally a good thing). Because a bunch of hacks, yes hacks, couldn't learn how to drive the mako, one of my favorite elements of the game was removed and replaced with "lovely" planet scanning. I had no problem whatsoever getting that stout little thing to do anything I needed in game once I got used to the controls, and I had great fun exploring planets with it. Took just a few hours. The Hammerhead was a half-hearted attempt to blend planetory exploration into the game, which I applaude the effort, but was still terribly confined to mostly linear missions and didn't have nearly the same feel.
truth.
The Mako was pretty much a beast at anything and with Tali in it you got so much damage repair, it was great, but then they took it away Posted Image.  Will it be returning for sure?

Honestly the ideal vehicle would be a combination of the Mako and the Hammerhead, with the maneuverability of the Hammerhead and the firepower and shielding of the Mako. Neither is even close to acceptable in their current form. But this isn't Tali related. :police:

Why? if you took the time to learn how to handle it, it would do whatever you wanted, I mean try trucking a colosus in the hammerhead, yeah not gonna happen.

This is also true, so yeah Tali is pretty much awesome, and is a lot more useful than people credit her for being, especially against YMIR mechs (energy drain). *murders shield while the widow owns armor

hey cool I thought I was the only hack in here that didn't find the mako fun. Loved exploration but disliked the means in which to explore.

I miss roving around on uncharted worlds. It needed refinement, not the axe.

this.

the main issue with the Mako was the terrain...why do they give us a goddamn tank to explore the Himalayas?

I enjoyed the Hammerhead in that regard, because I felt it was smoother..............a shame it took hits like a cardboard box...

Lol! I know right, you'll be trying to take a short to get to the destination and you find yourself crawling up the sides of small mountains. then you can't quite reach the top. sorry off topic, tali rules.

To add to the topic at hand - augh Mako. Loved how it fought, but some planets were awful for it. Eletania comes to mind.

At the topic that is -supposed- to be at hand, Tali is so adorable oh my gosh. :3

I prefer the Mako to the Hammerhead because it has an old-school lunar-rover kind of feel to it. I love the sound it makes as the wheels grind against the dirt and I like bouncing over small hills.  The Hammerhead flies so high and fast that they might as well have given us a small plane.

I think that the problem with the Mako was the map design (those huge steep mountains were tedious) and the fact that there was very little to do on the uncharted worlds other than play the simon-says mini-game.

I'd have liked more environmental hazards and more enemy vehicles to fight. Better map design would have made it obvious to the player how to get around steep cliffs/mountains. They could have tweaked the combat a bit too to make it faster and make it easier for the player to shoot and move at the same time.

I loved both the Mako and the Hammerhead. I felt freaking invincible in the Mako, and it was really awesome exploring the strange surface of alien worlds, and looking up at the sky. In the Hammerhead I felt more like I could go anywhere, but the map was so damned restricted that it got annoying.

The Mako needed classic Resident Evil-style tank controls. What I mean is a control system where pressing forward on the control stick will always make the Mako drive forward, push to the left will always make it turn left, regardless of what position the camera is in. The problem with the controls for the Mako in Mass Effect was that it was perspective based. So if you tried to drive around and move the camera at the same time the Mako would wind up veering off in odd directions.

If however the control remained the same without regard to the camera then it would be easier to shoot and move at the same time.

That's how the controls worked in the PC version, I can imagine it must have been rough with a different control scheme, though.

To try to keep this thread at least somewhat Tali related despite my feelings on the mako, and its ugly little sibling, I have a question. Obviously the quarians cannot be discriminitory on a race basis, for many reasons (suits, practicality, etc... also we don't even know if they have various races of quarians), so what kinds of problems do they have with each other? I mean, there is no way that we are looking at some sort of Utopia, these people are stuck crammed on top of each other, surely there has to be some sort of conflict, or groupings beyond ships and such. Maybe a topic that Bioware never chose to engage, or maybe something that I missed, still, it is something that I do find curious.

From what we've seen in-game, the only major divisive issue is politics. Mainly, whether or not they should fight the geth, try to stay on ships, try to find a new homeworld, or try to reclaim the geth. This is probably the only issue with which they can afford to be divided as any other unecessary division would endanger the fleet.
