I believe that Tali is atleast ealier then Legion was. From what I have been able to gather (note: I have not read the spoilers, so this is piecing togeather what I have heard from others) there is only a few missions that are absolutly requires, with alot of other optional "main" missions (much like the Loyalty missions, these effect the outcome of the end and would be stupid not to do them).

I beleive Tali is recruited durring the second half of the required missions, but since there are alot of optional missions to do, there is likely several hours of gameplay left after getting Tali.

So do you have to do the optional main missions before or after you get Tali? I'm seriously going to have a playthrough where I get Tali as fast as possible, and damn everything else.

Do we only need to make 2 of the 3 requirements you need to do in ME 2? I hope so, because i rewrote the geth so they would be stronger when the reapers came... :(

The only permanent squad members are Liara, Vega and Garrus. Ashley/Kaidan and Tali only remain permanent depending on vital choices Shepard makes during the game.

lol yea, if someone honestly thinks she'll stay with you after you do THAT.....let's just say that they should switch places with Tali in terms of their fate

EDIT: and no, not SM death. Pick geth instead of quarians if you can't broker peace between the two.

Based on everything we've been able to gleam in the spoiler group: at the beginning of the game after the Mars mission and you go to the Citadel, the next main story missions are the ones help the Turians and get Garrus, followed by the "Genophage Arc" missions (which are quite a few). After that, we believe that the next main story mission in the game can be the "Quarian/Geth conflict" missions AND/OR a Cerberus attack on the Citadel (although it seems like the Citadel mission may occur before the Quarian/Geth conflict.)

If you rewrote the Heretics, but got Tali exonerated at her trial (without losing her loyalty) and persuaded Tali/Legion to keep both their loyalties, you'll still be able to achieve peace - but you'll have to do several more missions 'right' in ME3 in order to have the chance to persuade the Quarians/Geth into peace (check the previous link for full specifics)

EDIT: Additionally, it now sounds like if you choose to rewrite the Heretics, the Geth will indeed be stronger, but as a consequence, the Quarian forces will also be weaker as a result.

Man, they weren't kidding about tougher choices! I did re-write instead, though I struggled with that choice. Good to know I'm not TOTALLY screwed though, I'll simply have to make sure I do everything else right since I did persuade at the trial AND at the confrontation, so basically I just need to nail down the missions properly and I'm ok.

Tricksy Bioware!

Can you take squaddies on N7a? I'm going to annoyed if Tali isn't there while I go save an admiral.

Yeah, you can - "N7a" missions are the side missions of ME3.

Argh, so now I have to have almost full paragon and save the admiral before getting Tali...
How long until I get that Admiral mission!?

I know we're lucky that we even get her, but if she's at the end of the game like Legion was she might as well be temporary.

Are you talking about the ME2 side mission? If so, read below otherwise just ignore. :)

You don't have to save the Admiral before Tali. I usually do all the side missions after I beat the main story in ME2. So I was able to bring Tali (and Legion) with me every time but it doesn't make a difference because they don't acknowledge each other. It just sounds like you should do it at some point in ME2.

Actually, the "Admiral mission" is a side mission in ME3 to save Admiral Koris and Quarian refugees from the Geth.

Additionally, I wouldn't bank on saving all the ME3 side missions for later and then finish them after most of the main story missions are complete because from the sounds of it, certain side missions are "timed" (like how you were timed after Horizon and could only complete 5 missions before the "Collector Ship" mission started) before they expire and you'll then be unable to complete them, losing any rewards that they might offer. :?

Literally every playthrough I rewrote the heretics....FUUUU!!! oh well as long as peace is still possible since I keep Legion and Tali's loyalty and she's still a memeber of the fleet, I'm good

I never used the virus on the heretics.

I have made all sorts of observations on it internally, but what it comes down to is that I simply can't. To me its wrong.

Can't you still make peace if they're rewritten?

And I've yet to see a straight answer as to how far into the game we have to wait to get Tali?

That's a trend I'll never understand. I see those types of questions often.

Ah okay so it doesn't have to do with ME2. I wasn't planning on waiting to do the side missions in ME3 (like I did in ME2) because I heard about the time limit. I love doing all the side missions <3 Thanks for confirming this though. :)
