also Shep's going through some stuff this game that's hard for the average human being to relate to, so while I as a Marine have the context to understand perfectly what's going on in someone's head re: survivor's guilt/PTSD/etc from a combination of personal experience and helping friends get through it, it's probably more of a reach for a lot of people.
Barring everything else, we can at least share this perspective. Not all of us stop being Marines when we press the console "off" button...
I always find it funny when people are surprised Marines are gamers.
(not saying you or any one here's done this, just commenting on a general reaction I've seen) I know we're supposed to be a breed apart and all that, but damn we still like having fun! There are few things more enjoyable then multiplayer shooters with a squad of Marines vs. a bunch of COD kiddies. Teamwork and a concrete plan of
attack is solid no matter what your trying to do? Surpressing fire mixed with flanking elements is a great way to take down bad guys IRL or in game? Shocker eh?
One of my favorite memories of the Mass Effect series as a whole is playing through the entire second game with my roommate, a Navy Corpsman, aka "Doc". Doc and I raced through that game, we were both addicted as hell but we also wanted to beat each other to the end and of course to the best ending. It really did make gaming a
truly social experience.
